Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Another one.
I was using the electronic shutter and I suspect we may be seeing a little skewing of the background from that: these were coming in at quite a lick so the panning was very fast as they were so close.
First time I'd tried birds-in-flight with the 12-100. The camera hung on to them pretty well - 9 point central cluster, tight lock and I didn't have the focus limiter on.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Bullfinches everywhere today, at WWT Llanelli and in the garden. Also Redwing, Pied Wagtail and Reed Buntings in the garden. Cold winter certainly brings them in, as I feed them well.............

This photo taken before 2.O firmware, so hoping that the upgrade will allow better focusing...........

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Had a wonderful day shooting Fieldfares from my bedroom window yesterday. But can't post them here as they weren't on my Olympus kit. Today is less harsh but they are still about. First success with the EM5mk2 and 40-150 with 1.4tc.

Strange behaviour just pushing down in the snow. As I opened the window this one and another (hidden from me) flew. So just through the glass, but the day is still young!

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Bullfinches and Fieldfares you lucky people. I have seen 2 Dunnocks and a Robin in my garden today. I will put some fresh water in the bird bath and see if that brings them in.

Have you got any old apples? I haven't and cannot risk using any of my wife's best apples which are not old and not suitable . But that would help me get the Fieldfares to come close, apparently....but I haven't tried.

they don't seem to want the water in the snow-bath...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Well this is getting to be a very good day

I have snapped a Redwing too but he was too far away. It makes having snow almost a good thing

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Lovely shots Peter. Nice to see a Song Thrush too. They really do like ivy berries but I live in an ivy-free zone these days. Have you tried the G9 with the 40-150 to capture them?

Yes, the G9 does well with the 40-150.

as you asked...this was yesterday

Fieldfare in the garden

Yesterday I was swapping between the three cameras.

The Canon is still my choice for birds. But I have an adaptor on order to give me autofocus with Canon lenses on the G9. So who knows what that will be like.

Three out of the nine pictures I put on Flickr have been taken up in Explore. Their sort of pic of the day (well 500 pics).

Fieldfare digging for diner. Watched him for five very cold minutes.......

Golden Plover in the marsh vegetation

Lapwing worming

Redwing hoping for a scrap I think

Whitford Point Lighthouse with a very cold Gower in the background.

All in a couple of very cold hours today. Not a lot of snow, but bitterly cold.......
