Olympus OI Share app

I've finally got around to trying this on my new Samsung 5S phone and I'm very impressed

I've got my camera on the tripod down in the garden, focused on my Robin Feeder (MF mode) and I'm sat upstairs in my computer room with the app working watching the screen waiting for one (or both) of the Robins to arrive. (that's about 30 feet away though the walls / double glazing)

Absolute luxury

One thing I'm noticing is that the screen view seems to be a little unstable (a bit of screen flicker every few seconds) otherwise I am seeing not problems

(Had to remember to stop the 'phone switching off after 30 secs though!

All I need now is a Robin to arrive

Re: Olympus OI Share app

Brian just a suggestion but put it in SAF and touch screen. When the robin arrives just tap the screen to get the best focus.

Re: Olympus OI Share app

I'll give that a try later, thanks

An update on the limit of WIFI operation, sat where I was in front of the PC is obviously the limit as after a while I started seeing signal drop. It recovered when I reset the control but is clearly not completely stable at this range

I'll go back down to the lounge and have a cuppa whilst waiting for some action now

Re: Olympus OI Share app

The eerie happening is that pictures taken on the EM1 when it is connected to the iPhone version of the ap get copied from the camera to the phone and thence to one's photo stream and hence to any computers registered to the stream.

I have not got the GpS data transferred to the image meta data yet. That will this weekends challenge.

Re: Olympus OI Share app

My word, it eats batteries in this mode (aided by the fact its cold out there). It drained a fully charged battery in about 45-60 minutes,

I guess that a combination of having the WIFI enabled and the LCD screen on

Not something I shall do on the off-chance of getting shot but may be of use when the young birds arrive in the Spring, when more activity is guaranteed

And also sequential drive mode to get a number of frames. Who knows, the second frame might be better than the first (just press for longer to get those frames).

About GPS. If you want to keep your place of residence private, only apply the GPS for when not at home (otherwise the wrong sort viewing the images & EXIF would know what to find there when they break in).

That's when Olympus might get to sell you an external power supply (& the HLD-7) as well.

Re: Olympus OI Share app

Thanks Ross, I'd already tried the 6fps option and it works,

however, as you would expect, the local birds have sat up in the neighbours' trees laughing at me and now the light has gone, so anything else is for another day

You could always bring the camera inside & take self portraits with the OI Share app. (I tried that on the Stylus 1).

Re: Olympus OI Share app

Ross - the issue with smartphone photos containing GPS information has already lead to a very expensive car being stolen after a picture of it was placed on a social web site by a boasting owner.

Re: Olympus OI Share app

Ahh, yes, I had this idea, too, when I visited my parents over Christmas. The app (which has been updated very recently to work with the E-M10) and camera worked very well, and were useful for family portraits. Unfortunately, the garden birds seemed to be faulty, as none arrived. Has anyone had any luck returning garden birds under their warranty? I can't seem to find the receipt for mine.

Re: Olympus OI Share app

The app will be useful if you need to place the camera where you cannot see the viewfinder(s) eg under a cabinet or a floor to check out defects in the structure.

I think that is a very valid point and one we should all bear in mind.

Personally I only use GPS logging when out and about when I find it to be very useful. OIS works very well indeed and is extremely easy to use. So a big plus to Olympus for that one.
