Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

1200 images...……….When would you have time to look at all of those...

For my bird photos, I just keep the last 10. Pressing the shutter fully when the little birdy flies away. I just know my reactions are a second or so slow...…...

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

Yes it certainly would Rob. However this wasn't set up for photography if was an experience event for someone's birthday so I just had to be a bit discrete. Good learning experience though.

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

Mark I made some of them into a short video using Lightroom but it is way too big to post on here. I just wanted to maximise my chance of getting something but yes it was pretty boring reviewing the results.

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

Videoing in 4K apparently enables still shots to be extracted. Never tried tho'.........

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

Me neither Mark but that does sound like an easier way to do it. Feels a bit like cheating though? Again it would fill up the memory card pretty quickly.

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

Wonder if a zoom lens like the 40-150 would be able to track the arrow.

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

That's an interesting question Henry. Does the lens maintain focus as you zoom, can't say I've ever noticed to be honest. The main problem though would be following an arrow at 60mph. I very much doubt I could do it! I do have some more in flight sequences but they need some post processing to see if the arrow can be highlighted more from the background. I'm not sure how well they have maintained focus either. They do show how wobbly the arrow is in flight though, I was quite surprised at that. When I get a bit of free time I will go back and have a look to see what I can get from the shots that might be worth posting. Oh just remembered that fast pro-capture doesn't refocus after the first press either so that is also going to add to the problems.

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

I have recently used the Pro Cap Low on the 40-150mm Pro. mainly for the blue tit nest box in the garden. I also use the CF tracking focus mode with it.

But the little birds are relatively small, and there is always the background nest box and wall, thus the focus is not necessarily maintained. Only way round is to close the aperture, and hope for the best.

It made me think that I could use my Oly 100-400mm with Pro Cap High. As the camera wont do the pro cap low with this lens. And as tracking is not an option with the Pro Cap High, thus I am not loosing focus with this set up. But the only significant advantage is that I can stand much further way from the nest box.....

Phew if you understand that tell me what I said....

Re: Pro-Capture Archery shots

Ye but...……….

If you have a noisy background tracking won't work (well) anyway.

So the lack of PC (procap) Low does not matter in the end for the Pany lens...…..

PC High does not track anyway...…….
