CaptureOne 10.2 available

I guess if you're a user like me you would have had an email by now.
Just in case you didn't, 10.2 is now available to download

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

I am currently thinking of getting a much better RAW processor than Elements 15. I bought this as an all rounder and it will continue to be used for several purposes, I'm sure.

I am now doing a lot of RAW processing and, having seen a lot of videos and read a lot of articles, have ruled out Lightroom. The two that catch the eye are DxO Pro 11 Elite and Capture 1. In terms of quality, these appear to be the best two. Capture 1 is almost twice the price of the already expensive DxO pro.

For you, C1 users, what is it that swayed you into that program and what differences would I notice from DxO pro?

Many thank for any input on this.

Another one to consider is Luminar.

For me it was the frustration with the Olympus RAW converter that sent me down the route of finding another solution.
I trialled many raw converters at the time (about 9 or 10 years ago) and though I initially settled on Adobe I was never happy with the output. This led to further testing which is when I settled on Capture One, at the time I think it was version 4.7!
What swung me was the detail extracted from the RAW files was better than anything else I tested at that time, the flexibility of achieving the colour balance output that I wanted was better than others I tried too.
And also very important was the intuitive easy to use user interface.

To me those virtues still hold today but to be completely fair I haven't seriously trialled DxO pro or any other converter recently because I don't see any reason to change.

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

Thanks Greytop,

I have read quite a lot of reviews and watched a ton of Youtube videos, Capture 1 and DxO both seem pretty wonderful and quite a lot better than Lightroom simply as processors. Maybe there is a slight edge to C1, but that price is off-putting and also just as importantly it does seem a great deal more complicated that DxO. Since DxO seems to be within a whisker of C1, perhaps that is where I need to start as a free download.

Don't know if the free download gives you all the features, but I can try.

I haven't read anything much on Luminar.

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

I've been using C1 (free for Sony) for a long time and just love it for the detail it brings out.
My problem now is that I finally got my E-M1 ii yesterday (got an amazing price for my old A65 as trade in) and really want to stay with C1 but as everyone is saying, the price is way too much. If they'd drop it to compete with DXO then I would have no hesitation but I can't see that happening so ...... here I am, looking for an alternative.

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

Then there are the two add on packs for DxO pro...if you want all 3 with the Elite package, the offer is around 229. Don't know whether that is worth it, but I am tempted by a Kodachrome 64 film look - like many, my favourite film.

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

DxO gives me way better raw conversions than I ever got from Adobe.

It's a bit limited in what it can do so I combine it with Affinity Photo for the fancy editing.

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

I don't do a huge amount of editing. I never go near layers. From what I can gather, a lot of other people who take primarily landscapes don't either. I do clone and brush out a few things, but Elements 15 does that perfectly well.
I don't imagine tht I'd ever truly need the full PS.

I am going to get the free download of DxO Pro Elite in the next day or two and see how I get on with it. It's possible that I may do the same with Capture 1 too.

I also hear on the grapevine that DxO 12 may be out before Christmas and that DxO often let very recent purchasers of the previous software have the new one for free, so I may benefit from that too if I buy in late October...we'll see.

I was going to do the update today, but I've used up my two free updates & it's sitting at 10.1.2. I'm not sure if it was the previous update that screwed up my computer or not (had to do an earlier restore) but I'm not going to pay for this update (I don't do a lot of editing in it that often). Is the 10.1.2 the last previous update?

Surely you should be good for updates up to version 11 Ross?
The last revision was 10.1.2, I think I would be inclined to contact support.

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

Mine was sitting on 10.1.2, had the email but didn't get the usual 'update available' when I opened the program. Manually checking for updates showed nothing available ! Went on the PhaseOne site, logged in and downloaded the latest 10.2 without any problems or any charges.

But does the licence cover it though? I checked too, but that was when I realised my licence limited me to only two free updates & I've used them up. Is your 10.2 separately installed, that is as a free trial version?

Re: CaptureOne 10.2 available

Ross,

I don't know what version you are using or what your licence is.... I do not use the subscription version, but have been using the full purchase version for many years. Whenever a new version is released, I purchase an upgrade, which entitles me to unlimited updates within the version.

I was running 10.1.2, but have now updated to 10.2. I'll be able to keep upgrading for free until Version 11 is released. At that stage, I'll have to purchase another upgrade.

As far as I am aware, I am allowed to install Capture One on two computers and I do so. - One copy on my 27" iMac and one copy on my 15" MacBook Pro.

That suits me.
