Sunrise over Bentong.

I like the dramatic sky but what can I do with the ground?

5 photos merge in Affinity Photo.

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

Personally I would lighten up the whole picture a little as the foreground is neither black or visible - if you adjust up the midtones a few % and highlights a bit less I think it looks better - but that is just my opinion of course

my take if you are Ok me posting an adjustment is

Regards
Andy

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

How do you adjust mid tones? from the curves? I did not want to brighten the whole picture as it removes the dramatic effects of the clouds.

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

On that one I just lifted the whole picture a bit including the clouds and I didn't think it detracted from them. All I have on my work of.is faststone so that's all I could do

If I had wanted to just adjust part of the pictures I would have done it in dxoptics or any program that supports masking or local adjustment and just down the bottom of the picture

Regards
Andy

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

What do you think of just upping the bottom without touching the top?
The top clouds looks like a dragon after the red sun ball.

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

You might want to try selecting different ranges of colour & brightness in the bottom of the image in different layers then increase the difference between the layers to give a recessional depth to the overall image.

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

Do you shoot in RAW and if so what software do you use?

This shot as presented is underexposed IMO. A soft edge graduated filter would help to balance the shot.

Reducing the highlights in something like Lightroom and lifting the overall exposure the edding a graduated filter would get you what you want

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

It's a 6 photo stitched in Affinity Photo.

Will try what Graham and Alfbranch suggest. Not too sure if I have that level of post processing to carry it out. But never the less, will try.

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

I like both versions here. In my version, I simply adjusted the curves to make more contrast in the shadow areas between the bands of hills, and did the same for the highlights - increasing the contrast between the clouds and the rest of the sky. Two s-shapes on my curve-adjusting machine (GIMP). Ends up looking like a cross between the two images above, but more "punch" for the strongest parts of the picture, maybe.

(My cheap monitor aside !)

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

It's on my desktop ! It's not that much different to the two versions already, and my monitor is not really for photography work. Anyway, I'll see what I can do ...

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

I prefer the pinks and sky in yours, but mine separates out the ridges better (on this monitor, anyway). So, the curves tool was a W-shape (or a double-S).

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

It's a beautiful shot but it looks too blue to me. I tried reducing Blue, using Photoshop Elements, then tweaked 'Levels' a little and finally added a little more Saturation.

Re: Sunrise over Bentong.

Whose wall is it going on, what size, and what frame ?!

All versions work for me, but a more purple version would be best in my Living Room :-)
