Hats off to Olympus....

Had the great pleasure today of a meet up with one of the guys from Olympus UK.....I won't go into detail, but it resulted in this meet up with David who helped me with the many aspects of the EM-1 which I never knew it could do (just a case of me remembering now)....a really nice guy and what you can do with this piece of kit is so clever...i'm indebted to Olympus for this opportunity which has helped me a lot in understanding the workings and settings.....the only downside was he wasn't able to bring the new 40-150 as someone else was using it...however from the info I was able to extract from him, it's going to be well worth the wait...i'm ready to order !!

Cheers

Peter

Great news Peter and glasd you are now able to explore the hidden secrets of the EM1.

When you have time, please share some of the info with us all.

Thanks

Re: Hats off to Olympus....

Ian and Yorkie.....there is so much that David was showing to me it was difficult to take it all in, but the live composite, bulb, and using my phone to tell the camera to focus and take pictures plus the wi-fi use was very useful....also using the colour dial to pin point a colour you want to lock on to and then everything else in B+W.....and thats just 10% of what it can do....instead of sitting and altering the pics on my laptop the processor in the camera can do most of it !! Such a great piece of kit.....plus the new 300mm lens when it does arrive sounds fantastic, and at not quite the really high price that people will assume as well....but that's as much as I could get from him.. just sat with the camera for an hour last night running over the things he showed me really, I hope it sticks

Cheers

Peter

Re: Hats off to Olympus....

Sounds really interesting. However, I am a bit 'old aschool' I suppose and have barely scraped the surface of what my E-M1 can do. Yes, all the things that you mention are great to have, but I wonder how many of us will use them regularly.........................but that doesn't mean I don't want to learn more about my camera.

Re: Hats off to Olympus....

Sounds like you had a great tuition session Peter hopefully, it made up for your previous experience.

I hope you manage to remember all you were shown so that you can teach me next time we meet up!

Re: Hats off to Olympus....

As you know Dave I can't say too much about how the meeting happened, but needless to say it was a great day....I'm a bit old school as well, but getting to know what to do in certain conditions etc is well worth it as this camera is so clever.

The operation via your phone app is really really useful for those who do lots of macro work, as you can control the focus on a single item with the touch of the phone screen and it focus's so quick, great as you can throw away your usb cable control....plus he gave me a demonstration of walking around with a live view on my phone and the camera in hand, not that I would use that but he was demonstrating how easy and quick the live view worked.

Probably not too good for battery life on either device.

I apologise for asking about how the tuition happened, even in jest. I didn't realise that it was wrong to ask. Sorry for any upset or offence caused.

Having been approached by "security" in London, for daring to point a camera at "their" building, I find they take no notice of me when using the iPhone to control the camera...

I agree Peter, operating the camera through the app is very useful, I've played with this by linking my iPad to the E-M1 via the wireless setting.

I may have to move from the stone age and buy myself a smart 'phone at some point.
