Re: February 2018 Monthly Photo Challenge Minimalism
That was a difficult choice... I wanted to vote for three of them!
The Hare and the weir were equal first in my voting... however I chose the hot springs as it was so "un-photo" like! Its got to be said (again) what a fantastic selection, good theme and amazing photos!

Re: February 2018 Monthly Photo Challenge Minimalism
I was torn between two and would have voted for this, if only the white bannister on the right had been cropped out! For this reason Ian's superb shot of three poles in the snow just pipped it.

It's interesting to see how we all see things differently, there are some surprising (to me at least) voting patterns already

I too was torn between many good entries. Some I felt did not quite pertain to the minimalist theme and so looked hard at Dave's, Paul's, Chris's, Henry's, Alf's and Iain's which I felt fullfilled the brief accurately. In the end I stretched the definition a bit to include tonality and opted for Davy's hare as it was such an excellent shot although a wider view with more white snow around the animal would have better suited this theme.

Re: February 2018 Monthly Photo Challenge Minimalism
Thank you very much to all those that voted.
I am really surprised though, as I thought the hare would run (hop!) away with it, although my favourite was the moon. I've enjoyed entering my first one of these challenges, and doing well does give me encouragement that I'm atleast doing something right! I will definately enter more, although the weather keeps beating me on the bridge shot I want! If anyone is remotely interested, the location was Torside reservoir on the Woodhead Pass crossing the Pennines (the Pennine Way actually goes along the dam wall). Torside is the second reservoir (of five) from the east, and the area offers some good landscape photo opportunities (try googling Middle Black Clough). The weir shot was taken last month (it is often dry in the warmer months) at f5.6/iso200/30sec exposure with a 10stop filter. I didn't do all that much processing, just a few level adjustments, cloned out a few stones from the bottom channel and cropped to make the most of the curve. This was the location on the day... ![]() Thanks again Chris |
