I agree it just seemed to be taking over the whole discussion. I will leave it at that and look forward to seeing and learning what people can do.

Re: Idea for a comp.

I've asked "Timboo" to provide me with a link to a RAW file so that I can set up as a new thread into which your edited copies of the image can be posted.

For the first time I think a cut-off date of the 24th of December to submit entries will give you all enough time to play with ideas and develop your edits.

Unless anyone comes up with a way of deciding the "best" edit, we can just have the thread run as a "Show-n-Tell" of how and why the finished image was produced.

Re: Idea for a comp.

Here's my take. I've gone to town on the red trousers as they seem to be in fashion at the moment. On a more serious note though, all the corrections were done on OV3 as I thought most people would be familiar with this. I started with correcting the horizontals and verticals using the tilt, parallelogram, trapezoidal, and lens distortion tool (there was a bit of curvature in the path). Then I dealt with the look and feel of the picture setting the raw processing to vivid, changing the white balance by clicking on the lock bar, and then using tone correction, saturation, and contrast, highlight and shadow lifting and then exporting as a jpeg. I didn't like the left hand trees so I ignored the rest of the picture and redid all my colours so the trees matched the exported jpeg. I then exported this as a new jpeg and merged the two jpegs in elements with a simple mask; although a cut and paste job in paintbrush would be equally as effective as I was only replacing one bit in one picture with the same bit from another.

I might try the whole thing in elements12 if I get some more time to see if I can do any better.

Re: Idea for a comp.

I was going to aim for a pre Christmas theme however didnt have an image I felt was suitable. Therefore I opted for a photo shot in Dorset.

It will make for some interesting edits in terms of crop and the sky colours. I have done my own edit and look forward to seeing a different take.
Anyway here is the first link to the the ball rolling.

That was quick. Yes, I think someone sugessted a new thread should be created for the results.

Edit: what size should we post to the gallery?

A New "Sticky" thread has been created for entries.

I'm still open to suggestions on how we pick the winner, but please keep that discussion to the original "idea" thread.

Graham, how about treating the Editing Challenge thread like a big LFI (looking for inspiration/improvement). When you have decided that the challenge has finished, post an entry listing the names of all the entries. So far we have:

Graham - default from RAW (for comparison)
Tom
mik - dark theme
MJ224 (Mark)
Art Frames (Peter) - castle crop
Wornish (Dave) - B&W
Technician (Michael) - B&W
Graham - First Snows Of Winter
OM - Gothic
Shenstone (Andy) - nicer take
OM - oil/pastel
Greenguru (Rob) - Reflections
Gingram - B&W
PDK42 (Paul)
Cliff - Blue duo tone
OM - clarity
Bikie John
Graham - default from RAW (for comparison)
MJ224 (Mark) - sun rise 1 in red
MJ224 (Mark) - sun rise 2 in yellow
MJ224 (Mark) - sun rise 3 with radial brush
Wornish (Dave) - entry 2
etc...

Then each "reviewer" can cut and paste the list of names and against each one list the pros and cons of how they think the edit panned out, whether they liked the final result and how it compared to the original, whether they thought the processing would be easy or difficult for them, and if it was an approach they might try themselves.

No winners as such but each entry would amass good and bad points and there may even be a concensus on the best software to achieve a particular look.

Re: Idea for a comp.

I thought of closing the challenge at the end of the month.

I like the idea of this being a "show and tell" of editing ideas along with feedback of people's thoughts and suggestions

Re: Idea for a comp.

Agree with you about closing sooner than later. I think all are done with this image. Might just do a "like" to allow all to have a say. Or maybe you might be judge...

Exclamation Re: Idea for a comp.

That is it for entries:

I've removed all the existing "LIKES" and comment posts to clean up the thread for "Voting"

Please add a "Like" for up to THREE edits (No "Selfies")

The person who made the edit to the most liked version will have the opportunity to provide the next RAW file for people to work with.

Please feel free to comment on the edits that have been made in particular how you think that edit improved the image.

Hopefully the editors of the most "Liked" images will share their thoughts and techniques.

Re: Idea for a comp.

I will count up the "Likes" on Sunday evening and post the results.

I'm away the following week, so hopefully people will add their comments and techniques, during the week and following that we can decide on doing another challenge, perhaps at the beginning of the New Year.

Feel free to comment on improvements to the way this challenge has been done.
