That's interesting, do you have any sample shots you took with the 300+TC?

I would be interested to know in what way you feel it is better. Do you mean versatility being a zoom or something else? Not that I have the funds to buy one at the moment!

But I think the Mk2 will be much more expensive than the Panasonic 100-400mm and then you will need to to buy an adapter that supports at least aperture control and maybe AF to use it on your m4/3 camera (which camera do you have BTW?)

I have the Panasonic 100-400mm and am very happy with it for motorsports with my OMD EM1 Mk1, even at 400mm. However, perfect sharpness is not essential for me as I am using slowish shutter speeds to keep a sense of motion.

I also have the Mk1 Canon 100-400 and Metabones adapter AF. The AF with the Canon lens via the Metabones on the EM1 is atrocious. Far too slow to catch anything moving.

Consequently, if you need AF on m4/3 I recommend the Panasonic. On the other hand, if you need really fast and reliable AF, you should get the new Canon 100-400 and use it with your 5Dmk2 and crop.
If CAF is not a must have and long focal length is a main priority another option is the Canon 400/5.6. Very sharp and faster than the Panasonic. Lack of IS is not an issue as the IBIS does this, could even be an advantage as these lenses can be found at attractive price points. Lastly it can be used with 1.4X extender with AF still working. The drawback is you will need to buy the metabones adapter which is not exactly cheap.

Versatility mainly. I can't detect any difference in IQ. If it's purely birds then the 300/4+1.4 gives the best reach and you need it to fill the frame. For animals, on safari for example, the 100-400 is better and still good for birds.
