Found the review in question, you can review it -> here
It has the 2 X DTC that the OM-D & PENs have. I had used it to grab that shot of the water fowl running across the water but because I saved RAW as well I realised the original size had the perfect shot after all & that is what I have here.

It also has two levers to operate the zoom, with the left one being stepable or slow (for movie use) if desired. The right is a standard compact type zoom lever around the shutter button. also the front ring can change from step (for various parameter changes like a front dial) to smooth with the lever & that can be for MF or zoom etc.

Re: Who uses Stylus 1?

Just for the sake of it, here are a couple of shots taken at Springwood Foundation Day (Blue Mountains) in 2014 taken by my daughter with my Stylus 1.

This is a crop of another frame

Clicking on these photos will take you to the gallery where my E-M5 shots were shaky (shutter shock?) compared to these.

Re: Who uses Stylus 1?

Thanks again for those who have posted images.
From what I've seen Stylus 1 looks like good value as a walk around compact.
I'm not big into Compact all in one camera, limited experience with, hence the request for users thoughts.
Want a holiday camera with out the extras required with a PEN or OM-D.
Her in doors may use this more than her PEN

It certainly does a lot that is good, especially with the constant f2.8 lens. So long as you allow for its limitations it will surprise you with what it does do for you. I stuff mine into a front pouch (bum bag) often or else a small camera bag (where I include the FL36R flash). I have also had it with me as a 3rd camera to cover my needs. Although it only goes up to 1/2000 sec it includes an ND 3EV filter that can be switched in (through the SCP with touch is possibly the quickest rather than using up a function button that can be used for something more important). I use the Record button (in PASM) for AE Lock & Fn1 as 2 X DTC but then I need to use one of the 2 Custom positions on the mode dial for video which can only be started & stopped with the Record button. That works for me.

The front Fn2 button (in the front lever for click & smooth ring rotation) can have functions selected for it but it only cycles through the list to get to them with each press of the button so it is best to only have a small number of functions selected for it to keep it quick enough to get to the desired function.

Another thing that may be just a gimmick to you, it not only has the standard level gauge but also a (digital) bubble type too.

Re: Who uses Stylus 1?

I'd just like to add my thanks to all concerned for the help and advice offered over the previous few weeks.

DerekC's request has added much more info than my prior request for help. I'm now even more convinced I made the right decision for getting my new toy, especially after seeing the photo's posted earlier and today by Jamsa and Ross.

A double whammy!

I'm sorry I didn't come up with more earlier. I guess I didn't think to mention these things before. I might have been pre-occupied with a certain daughter's wedding during that time or just thinking about new toys I might get myself.

Re: Who uses Stylus 1?

I hope you don't mind me jumping in as well with a question?
I was thinking of getting the Panasonic FZ1000 for use when walking my dogs (I walk with a stick, which makes it hard with 2 dogs as well!) however circumstances at the moment dictate that the price is just not justifiable.
So I was wondering what sort of ISO can you go up to before noise is problematic please?
Many thanks

No apologies needed, Ross. I hadn't remembered your post with the daughter's pics and yours with the XZ, but I'm sure, that however dim the light bulb, it was on when I decided to go for it.

I found a series of reviews (3) which proved very informative, even when skipping through much of it. plenty of info, and pics to use as a comparison on various subject etc. including noise levels at various settings.

Here they are with separate links if anyone is interested:

These were taken with the 75-300 on the Em1 for comparison the top one using the X2 digital zoom.

The Panasonic FZ1000 looks to be a very nice capable camera, but if weight is a problem it isn't the lightest camera around at 831g & of course, the price isn't the cheapest either.

To answer your question, the Stylus 1 is set with Auto ISO to go up to 1600 (max. ISO 12800) & that's how I leave it set as the constant f2.8 lens does do its job pretty good with the size (1/1.7" CMOS) sensor in that camera. The weight is only approx. 402 g.

Here are some higher ISO shots for you. These are all using Auto ISO & not forcing high ISO artificially.

ISO 800 in a low light hallway

ISO 1600 in a darkened room

Even darker on top of a cupboard at ISO 1600

This room was pretty dark, so I can't see you being troubled by low light applications walking the dogs somehow. I'll try & get some hand held night scenes if I can.

Again, it's the lens that does so well here.

Re: Who uses Stylus 1?

Here's two more low photos for wellyboot. This is in a very dark location where I had to lean my elbow on wall to steady the camera to get this one (at Auto ISO 1600).

Some daylight coming in here (ISO 1600) at maximum telephoto range across the room.

Just to compare with E-M1 + Sigma 150 f2.8 lens at ISO 1600

Comparing with E-M1 + Sigma 150 f2.8 lens ISO 6400

I hope that helps.
