Sorry, You Were Out

Our pub landlord ordered some goods online, which were to be delivered by DPD. Twice he has been told that they tried to deliver but nobody was at home.

The problem is that one approach to the pub has the road closed for several weeks while subsidence is repaired. The shortest deviation is about 4 miles, starting at a roundabout.

Proof of their attempts to deliver has been supplied in the form of photographs of the failed-delivery card, which should be left at the delivery address, with the the roundabout in the backgound.

Assume above is in praise of DPD. IMO they are one of the best Couriers in the market. Maybe we should all insist they are 'The Carrier of Choice'

The same way that the package "arrived?"

I always think Hermes are great. They always let you know that they have delivered your goods - about an hour after they have done so.

Even better when it's a courier that tells you the goods will be delivered at around 2 to 3 pm, then turn up about 11 am.... or even the day before....

DPD is very good, and they let you know when to expect them.

UPS is also very professional in my experience.

Many of the others are best avoided though.

TBH, I've found most of them OK, so long as you don't expect too much.

Wasn't it DPD who forced one of their delivery drivers (working for them on a less than minimum wage "contract") to pay 1500 compensation to them when he was unable to attend work - because he'd been run over delivering the day before and had a broken leg!?

I hadn't heard that, although nothing would surprise me.

However, I did hear that an Amazon food delivery driver had to have a dump in the back of his van because his delivery schedule did not allow time for rest breaks.

And then, only last week I heard that Jeff Bezos, the Owner of Amazon has become the richest person on earth. (Bill Gates, the previous richest person on earth has given away much of his wealth to good causes.)

Now, I wonder how much Corporation Tax Amazon pays in the UK?

Yup!

They aren't an employer paul. Just use franchisees. So they don't pay holiday pay, sick pay, etc., etc, I imagine. Sign of the times?

But if you-know-who has her way, there will be no unions, and no parliamentary votes, so no more JC either..... (The OTHER JC, that is...!)

Re: Sorry, You Were Out

I guess it has a lot to do with the individual drivers but my local DPD driver always turns up within the stated one-hour time slot, sometimes on the dot of the start time! Not long ago I received a text message from Royal Mail telling me a parcel had been delivered, a few minutes before the postman rang the doorbell. He explained that it was easier for him to scan the parcel in the van before he walked up the drive .
