They will be sold out and in short supply though as Oly are bigging it up, hopefully accurately!

Olympus Australia is pleased to announce the development of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO super telephoto zoom lens. This model is compliant with the Micro Four Thirds System standard, featuring a 1.25x built-in teleconverter, covering a focal length range from 300-1000mm1 (35mm equivalent). Also in development is the M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter MC-20. Combining both products makes handheld super telephoto shooting possible at 2000mm (35mm equivalent). Design mockups of these items will be on display at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show held at the Pacifico Yokohama in Japan beginning Thursday, February 28, 2019.

Re: New MC 20 announced.

If you go to the Olympus website and look at the lenses, adaptors and converters section, there's a hint it's coming as there's an image in the selection photo... Here!

Re: New MC 20 announced.

Will that be limited to only that few lenses? Was very disappointed the x1.4 was not usable on the other lenses.

I think it's just the 40-150 and the 300mm Henry oh and the new 150-400 when it is released.

Going by the image I found, it has the same protruding front element that has to sit inside the lens body, so it will be limited to the same lenses as the 1.4, the mount is also slightly different, having an extra little piece to match up with the extra contacts in the lens - so the lens knows it's attached and changes the exif data feed to the camera... (the converters have no electronic parts.)

Re: New MC 20 announced.

There is also hope from someone commenting on FB for an MC17 as Olympus did apply for a patent on that too.

The lenses have two pins for decoding which TC is used, but with two connections there is a possibility for three different combinations (pin 1, pin 2 or pins 1&2), so maybe they will bring an MC17 soon (hopefully) too.

Re: New MC 20 announced.

Sounds good, but with a 600mm lens might be tricky to use in the field (birding). Now for Astro...……….

Targeting the subject at 600mm afst enough if the background is busy can be tricky, but with practice comes skills. It is definitely doable.

You should be able to hand-shoot at 600mm with ease thanks to the excellent dual IS and the low weight/high portability of the setup. I would guess with shutter speeds as slow as 1/100 s or maybe even longer shutter time. With the 300 F/4 and MC14 fitted I get sharp results at 1/60s hand-held without any support and with acceptable keeper rate. Divide this with 1.4 and then you get around 1/80... 1/100s.

You may have to push the ISO unless favorable light since it will be F/8. This may become an issue if using the E-M1 mark 1.

I know the AF will work with confidence at F/8 based on my previous experiences using the adapted Canon EF 400/5.6 with 1.4 extender, so no reason it would not work properly with the 300 /4 and MC 20.
