Cannon firing at Fort Lytton (Image Heavy)

On Saturday, I decided to go to Fort Lytton, which is on the south bank of the Brisbane River's mouth, and photograph the cannon firing which is part of the History Alive presentation. I also decided to see whether the ProCapture facility on my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II with the 12-100mm PRO lens would let me get decent photos of the flames coming out of the guns.

Here we go:

The smaller cannons

And now for the BIG Cannons:

So did ProCapture work? A most emphatic YES

That last one is spectacular! (I guess it's a muzzle loader with a black powder charge.)

A truly impressive set there, Larry. More so had the last cannon been revectored ninety degrees anticlockwise with a 42lb cannonball, eh?

But some interesting shots. How did you do the timing? Procap or just continuous exposure?
I used ProCapture. I also managed to get some shots of muskets being fired. I'll post some of them a bit later.

Around our coast there are various places with old cannon pointing out to sea. I tell my German wife that they're to keep 'Johnny Foreigner' at bay!

You know when the Queen has a baby they fire a 24 gun salute.

When a Nun has a baby they fire a dirty old Canon...………..

Very nice Larry. If it was summer then that last one would help control the flies.

It's nice to see all this historic artillery in such good nick. One of the best places to see old guns in their original batteries is Gibraltar.

Re: Cannon firing at Fort Lytton (Image Heavy)

There are very big muzzle loading cannons at Hurst Castle on the Hampshire coast.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurst_Castle

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RML_12.5_inch_38_ton_gun

They were put there in the 19th century to keep the French at bay. They've worked pretty well so far!

Re: Cannon firing at Fort Lytton (Image Heavy)

There's a well preserved battery of 24pdr canon on iron carriages dating from c1805 at Fort St James which guards the entrance to St John's Antigua.
