Broken SD card

I have a Lexar 64GB 1000X that is broken. The small whit write tab has broken off. Anyone had this problem?
Fixed it, good old google. A bit of tape over the gap where the tab was. But it is going back to the place I got it from, only a year old and it conks out on me. Not cheap.

Like you, I've had a similar experience and the tape trick does work. I held onto the card.
I put a red dot sticker on it and now use it to keep certain items I don't want to lose/delete in error.

Re: Broken SD card

I too have had a similar problem, not with Lexar but a cheaper brand, the whole thing came apart and split in two. It went back together and I was able to retrieve all the data. I could probably fix it with a dot or two of glue but haven’t yet bothered as I’ve got some of the aforementioned 64GB Lexars. The write protect tab has always felt like an accident waiting to happen to me though - a mechanical switch mechanism needing a surprising force to move in such a flimsy package to begin with.

Re: Broken SD card

Yup, snapped the tab off a 7 Dayshop 16GB card a couple of years ago putting it into my E-M10 at a slight angle.
Thankfully I was able to get all the images off it and the tiny tab pinged away from the camera not inside.
Lesson learned about being very careful inserting and removing SD cards.
I didn't try your tape trick, but just did and it works nicely - I won't be trusting the card in my camera again though.

Fear of card failure is one of the reasons I've stuck with 16GB cards. 16GB is enough for me on an average day for my preferences and I back up to the laptop at the end of each day of any trip.

Me too. Having had a memory stick fail, I'm not keen on placing all my eggs in one basket.

Re: Broken SD card

Problem with the older / smaller cards is that they fall out of the sweet spot price-wise and start to cost more than their capacity warrants. I just hope there isn’t a trend towards micro SD cards, going from CF to SD was bad enough and I still use a camera that takes CF and much prefer it to SD I’m afraid.

Re: Broken SD card

Sorted! I rang cameraWorld on Wednesday 31st Jan re the broken card. I was told to send it back to them, which I did on Fri 1st March. yesterday i got a cll from them saying they didn't have a 64GB card in stock, I said that 2 x 32Gb's would do, got them this morning.
How is that for service?

I've found Camera Word really good too for price matching in the past. Glad you got sorted.
