BLN-1 Replacement

Have been looking around at these, and although I'll probably end up with a genuine one (ouch!) I just wondered if anyone had tried the Duracell version of the BLN-1 battery?

Re: BLN-1 Replacement

Originals are listed on camerapricebuster, which might be a help.

I used white ExPro compatibles for years and was never convinced they lasted any shorter than originals, and you can use the Oly charger.

Thanks. Yup, I looked at the white Ex-Pro's, but they seemed to get very mixed reviews......

On the other hand, drmarkf has given them the thumbs up!

Disclaimer: my camera came with two Olympus original batteries and I have no experience of other makes.

The Olympus batteries are an outrageous price and I get a feeling that Duracell might be trying to cash-in on their excellent brand awareness by charging* more than everyone else but less than Olympus. What's the chances that the Duracell batteries are made in the same Chinese factory as all the other batteries?

A quick check online suggests you can get five Ex-Pro batteries for the same price as one Olympus battery (and they are "chip" compatible). If it was me I'd go for a few Ex-Pro batteries.

Re: BLN-1 Replacement

I hope the Duracell batteries are better than their SD cards.

Many holiday pictures lost when one failed in my wife's camera. It could not be recognized in the camera, PC, or anything else so no recovery was possible.

Re: BLN-1 Replacement

I've been using these for years and they are superb: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rechargeabl...keywords=bln-1

Edit: .... and they work fine in Olympus' chargers. I have 4 of them.

ExPro the white battery works well, better charge with their own charger, Cheaper if you buy from their web site.

Re: BLN-1 Replacement

I was wondering the same. Is it worth paying extra for Oly originals?

Also do they wear down over time? Some of my older ones (provided with used camera) seem to flatten quite quickly.

That seems to be the problem with non-OEM batteries, longevity...... OK when you first buy them, but their ability to hold a charge quickly deteriorates. I guess you get what you pay for...... I think they're fine as a backup. Certainly better than having no battery at all.....

I prefer the Olympus original & had one of the cheaper batteries for the E-M5 (same battery) swell on me, so that got chucked pretty quick.

I'm using entirely them now. Their grey ones swell and get very tight and eventually will not go into a camera or grip.

Re: BLN-1 Replacement

I have two genuine BLN1 batteries for my Pen-F, but in anticipation of wintering abroad this year, (January + February in Southern Spain), I bought two of the white X-Pro equivalents for back-up.
They all got some use, and I really could scarcely distinguish between the X pro whites and the genuine BLN1s in use (and they were all charged in my original Oly charger).
(Now I'm back home, I have much more capacity than I need for my occasional photography so I am going to stick 'em up here 'for sale' )
