Cheap Drink And A Meal Anyone ?

I'll have a large sherry.

The Smoked halibut with watercress, horseradish crème fraiche, pink grapefruit and dehydrated pickled shallots at £4.25 seems very reasonable.

No direct party political responses please !

Looks like it's only a tiny sample of what's on offer. It would have been better reporting if they had shown the full menu. The level of subsidy which is the point of the article is still an eye opener though.

Regards,

John

It doesn't matter how fine the cuisine, they are still eating it out of a trough!
Oink, oink!

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it "Riding The Gravy Train"

I wonder how many people would decline if officially invited to dine at the House Of Commons and dip their snouts into that same trough ?

Re: Cheap Drink And A Meal Anyone ?

I'm very much surprised that they can still get away with subsidised prices for food and drink. I say this as, I'm almost certain that just after the last bashing over the expenses fiasco, there was mention that an MP gets a food allowance of £400 per month? If true, this begs three questions: Why subsidised meals, why £400 pcm for food and, why do we continue to allow them to carry-on regardless?

They should open a Greggs on site and do away with the subsidised dining rooms.

Maybe allow them a 'meal deal' per day.

Prices should be linked to train fares.

With at least 30 bars in the House Of Commons, there should be compulsory breathalizers placed at all the entrances to the Chamber with the same penalties applied as those for driving under the influence of alcohol.

If it's illegal to drive a car whilst over the limit, why should it be legal to run a country whilst over the alcohol limit ?

Could it be, that they are too PSSSSST to care? Not helped by the fact that the penalty for being caught, is either to apologise for being caught or, to ask the question of why pick on me... everyone is doing it?

The irony is that we as taxpayers subsidise these beer, wine and brandy guzzling slobs, of all parties, to the tune of 2.7 million

I wonder how many would remain if all these obscene perks were removed ?

Field Marshall Rommel always rejected his rights to dine as an officer. He insisted on being on the same rations as his men, so that he would know their physical capabilities at any given time.

How can MPs on subsidised food and drink, available in-house at all hours, know what it is to be an ordinary citizen on ordinary income?

Harold

Re: Cheap Drink And A Meal Anyone ?

It is possible to "hire" a dining room at the Palace of Westminister for a private function that is sponsored by your local MP (the MP's secretary will make the booking and the MP will attend...briefly... to make it official). I did this once about 10 or so years ago. If I recall we were charged about £45 per head for 50 people. No one offered us any subsidised meals.

Exactly Harold, the simple answer is they can't and don't. A fact that could be an underlying reason why the country is in such a mess.

There's one way to find out and the answer doesn't lie in the soil. It lies in the hands of those who take the time and effort to vote.

Of course, there is also the alternative L party vote? However, from a fairly recent train sequence scenario that proved forward thinking was way too dificult, that could end up heaping insult upon injury.

As things stand, a None Of The Above box to tick seems to become a much needed option as time goes by. The old saying: When you have them by the curly wurlies... they'll follow you anywhere and do as you command.
