Pitch black and foggy!

I had a couple of hours last night up in the Peak District. Unfortunately there was a lot of mist about so no chance of any star photography, so we had a mess about with torches instead! It ended up being great fun, even if there wasn't anything of much merit taken!

I have front lit versions, but prefer these dark ones for their mood.

Pretty cool Chris. Actually you found more millstones in the dark than I've found in daylight

These ones are at Stanage Edge Phill, near the start. They are huge examples too.

Re: Pitch black and foggy!

Thanks Paul

I think they’ve come out pretty well, especially as I had the ISO cranked up. On some shots I was up at 2000 which is higher than I have ever used before. There is some selective noise reduction on the dark areas on post processing though.

Re: Pitch black and foggy!

Spooky!

About the ISO: if this is an E-M1ii, and depending on what your intended use of the images is, I'm sure you'd be OK up to at least 3200. As long as it's well exposed and carefully selectively noise-reduced some people go to 6400, even for a 10 x 8" print, and I doubt anyone would notice never mind jib at a bit of grain in such a moody image.

Tesni Ward says she's had wildlife images printed & published at 3200, and I know people who have won UK club photography PDI competitions with images taken at that level.

Re: Pitch black and foggy!

That’s good to know Mark, although these were take on a EM10mkii + 12-40pro combo. I can’t see me printing either, so not an issue anyway, I just like to try to do the best I can ....... with limited skills and software options!
If memory serves me right, the first shot is at 800 and the second higher than that, possibly 2000

I suspect you'd be fine at 2000, with occasional forays higher. The only M10 I've got or ever used is converted to full-spectrum so I can't speak from experience!
