And now 'Enter the Neon Cuckoo Bee'.

Yes, that is correct. It is one of Australia's cuckoo bees & this one lays it's eggs in the nest of the following Blue-banded bee (the blue is very pale on this specimen).

All taken with E-M1 Mk II with 40-150 lens & MC14 & images have been cropped, some quite a bit.

Re: And now 'Enter the Neon Cuckoo Bee'.

Pretty bees as well as pretty birds Ross. Is there no end to the Oz species.

SO well taken, movement frozen, and pin sharp. Great photos ………...

That's a ridiculous colour Ross! Is it a warning colour because it stings or is toxic (or maybe you whacked up the saturation )?

That's the natural colour Jim (with a slight addition of saturation only). The link I provided also shows how vivid the colour is too. I don't know anything about the toxicity of its sting though.

Not the sort of thing you’d want to find out the hard way. Nice shots.

Most solitary bees have no sting

Re: And now 'Enter the Neon Cuckoo Bee'.

Exceptionally clever, well timed shots there, Ross. The 40-150 on an M1 Mkii is a howler!

I guess it's it's all the context. I remember ripper meaning something pretty horrifying & then there is howling in pain.

I'm just going to go with 'a you beaut' lens.

Excellent shots Ross. Never heard of a Blue Bee or a Cuckoo Bee either, really nice to see.

A very attractive species.

While the Honeybee cannot do the "buzz pollination" our native bumblebees can and are supplied as artificially-raised colonies to tomato growers.
