When we get into power, precis will be the norm, especially if the source is from the Guardian Newspaper.
You don't have to read it Steve. At least the Guardian still lets anyone read their articles because there's no pay wall like most uk quality newspapers today (Times, Torygraph etc).

Could be worse. In the USA it was the Mafia.

True. My main gripe is the number of hyperlinked references, not the Guardian especially. If someone has a good comprehension of another's work, they should be able to boil it down in a paragraph or two. Not War and Peace, but a short précis of the facts. One could always provide the source, as in a dissertation, for example.

That would be a shortcut to an opinion of an opinion.

I can see what you mean Steve. I think it's behovent on posters to put a summary and I normally do - but that article was two points of view so it wasn't easy to put a summary.

To recompense somewhat, there's another great article by Andrew Rawnsley in the Observer/Guardian today too:

https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...ards-the-abyss

Quote:
Failed by both its major parties, the biggest loser of all is Brexit-broken Britain. Our country is careening towards disaster. All of its political institutions know this. None of them seems capable of arresting it. They continue to play their games of charades as we lurch towards the abyss.

Thanks Paul. By quoting just five sentences, as you have here, it provides the reader with a steer whether to read further. I did.
I agree with Rawnsley. It feels as though we're in a car accident about to happen, such as applying the brakes but we're skidding on black ice.

If the Labour Party promise to support them, will they get a billion quid like they gave to the D.U.P.?

Why?

Surely a matter as important as Brexit should be cross-party rather than party political?

I can think of a few other departments that might be better run by cross-party committees as well, including Health and Education. None of these have benefited from becoming political footballs over the past fifty years or so.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Lots of depressing reading in today's newspapers. Dire November trading from several retailers (Asos, Sports Direct), Jaguar cutting 5000 jobs as part of a multi billion pound economy drive and house prices falling. So much for the Tories being the party of sound economic stewardship.

According to tradition, Russia will now invade Hungary (as in 1956), saying they were invited. How does that appeal, EU Comrade Citizens?

Totally agree, cross party for the good of the whole country.

Those political footballs have cost us billions and probably made millionaires out of some of the people organising the football game along the way.

Is any of that surprising though really? ASOS and SD, both leisure suppliers, hardly cornerstones of British manufacturing seeing as I’d guess that most of the cheap crap comes from Far Eastern sweatshops (child labour anyone?)
Jaguar, aren’t they owned by Tata? Indian company? Now let’s think where it might be cheaper to make vehicles??
House prices falling? That might stop the ridiculous rise that’s gradually making houses unaffordable for ordinary people.
