It was inevitable. Brexit was a poisoned chalice for May from the word go. I don't know why she didn't see it.

Prior to T.M.'s speech Vicky Young commented that during the week Labour didn't contribute much to the debate, and just watched as the Tory Party tore itself apart arguing amongst themselves.

During T.M.'s postponement speech I noticed Boris Johnson not saying anything, and just sitting yawning at the back lurking like a spider. He's ready to pounce now!

She was kinda stuck with it by that point. Where she dropped the ball was when she called that snap election. If she hadnít done that it stood a chance of being different at this point (how little or how much I donít know)

Sums this whole fiasco up in a nutshell.

Some of the comments have it spot on.

They could all say that, but I couldn't possibly comment.

As for Jeremy sitting stum... could he be moonlighting?

What are the chances ->

a) BoJo becomes leader.
b) UK leaves the EU on WTO.
c) Would a nun place a bet?

For some weird reason, it doesn't seem to matter what Johnson does or says, the public still seem to like him! A neighbour said to me a while ago "I like him - he's funny!", and this seems for many to be a good enough reason to support him.

Eddie Mair in his interview on the Andrew Marr show in 2013 summed him up: "You're a nasty piece of work, aren't you?"

Catastrophe. Chances are we'll get a swivel-eyed loon to replace her who will press ahead with leaving on 29th March no matter what. We will all come to see these times as when the Tory party f_cked the country and f_cked themselves.

I know I said she should resign, but I have changed my mind. May should be allowed to follow through and compete her negotiations ....mission impossible or be the one to cancel Brexit should all else fails. She knows the EU leaders funny strange ways, their strengths and weaknesses. If she does get the boot, whoever is in the ring to replace her, will have to face the same issues. Iíd like her to stay on to see how it pans out. I have no confidence in the womaniser BJ and I dislike his naff haircut My remain compadres wonít like what I have said. OK I changed my mind about M and with that in mind, maybe millions of Brexiteers (minus the few here) can also change their mind about leaving.

One last thought ..... if JC fails in ousting M, he will seen to be weak.

BoJo may well become Prime Minister, but he will suffer from the same restriction as Theresa May - that there is not a majority in Parliament for Brexit. Of course, he could decide to let a hard Brexit happen by default on the 29th March deadline, simply by not putting any other plan to the vote in the Commons. However, Corbyn would probably table a motion of No Confidence in the Government and it is highly likely that enough Tory MPs would support this even though it would force a General Election which Labour would win. Timing is critical and it could be that there isn't enough time for all this to happen by the end of March but in the event of a General Election being called it's possible that the Opposition could appeal direct to the EU for an extension.

Whether this is legally or constitutionally possible I don't know, but this is an extraordinary period which will rank in our history on a par with the signing of Magna Carter or the English Civil War, not just because it will determine our future relationship with Europe, but because it exposes us as a deeply and bitterly divided nation. At least May was offering a workable compromise, even though it had the support of virtually no one. Today, assuming that she will lose the confidence vote, we are sailing into uncharted waters and anybody's guess of what will happen is as good as mine.

If TM receives the vote of no confidence from the 1922 committee does she phone DT and J-CJ saying merry Christmas, see you?!
Or possibly is this the moment the EU provides the UK with a duplicate set of keys to 'the gotcha' on the back stop?

Youíre probably right but what saddens me is the fact that this is so much bigger than petty party politics, they should all be working together to sort this mess, not infighting and point scoring. It just goes to show what a pi55 poor bunch of lightweights we are saddled with today. Barring TM (possibly) thereís not a statesman amongst them all, in any party. They should all be thoroughly ashamed.

But will the E.U. see any point in negotiating with someone that's at the point of being ousted?

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

There's no more negotiating to be done with the EU. They have said enough is enough, take it or leave it, and who can blame them? If May survives she might have the good sense to pull Article 50 and put an end to the mess for now. But I'm not holding my breath. If BoJo ends up as PM then the title of this lengthy thread will prove to be true I fear ...
