Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Yes, another example is auto white balance - with raw or jpeg files my Oly and Fuji cameras are very reliable and rarely need a tweak unless I'm looking for a deliberately warmer or cooler effect, whereas my Sony is often all over the place.

There are a lot of ageing baby-boomers coming through who are getting less and less interested in heaving FF gear around; obviously this is more relevant for wildlife & sports photographers, but have you seen the size/weight of the new Canon and Nikon 'standard' primes and zooms for their new mirrorless bodies?

There is still a good market for m4/3 as long as it's advertised well and given sufficient social media impact, but I grant you the current fanboy fashions go against it.

The current (FF) fanboy fashions is an area that Olympus marketing needs to come up with realistic & convincing advertising to counter it & not some tacky attempt at it though.

They are trying. Currently it’s the whole mobility thing, and they have some great photographers to back them up. I do agree with that. The one thing larger format aficionados like to sell is the “shooting envelope”, while conveniently ignoring the fact that having the bloody thing with you is one dimension of that “shooting envelope”.

Yes, it does look legitimate to me too. Some of its features are a return to the E-5 (DSLR) such as the dials. Note there is no Art Filters on the mode dial, just Video, PASMB & C1 to C4.

It’s much more than I’ll ever need, but I hope I can afford the long telezoom lens though.

Not for me either. I moved from Canon to reduce the bulk of the kit I was using not to then go right back to a similar size and weight and drop some pixels on the way. Simply can’t see the point in this at all.

Absolutely, they seem to be getting more and more niche. Time they did more mainstream updates that play to the system strengths to differentiate them from the FF me too crowd. With a big leap in sensor performance, the smaller sensor should become largely irrelevant to the vast majority of users, so small size and weight of the system becomes the major advantage. Sadly, the system design has always been ahead of sensor performance since the 4/3 days.

Totally agree Tim. This is just completely NOT what I entered m43 for. It's probably bigger than the 5DII I used to run when I had Canon gear.

Where's the E-M5iii with 20Mp sensor and improved CAF?

Launch: January 2019 along “2 tele zooms, 1 wide angle zoom. speedlight. zuiko binoculars”
The emboldened bit interested me, not any of the other stuff, including the camera which is way too big to be of interest, my EM1 MK2 is a big as I want to go, and I enjoy simply going out with my Pen F or EM5 in jacket pocket.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Have to say I really like it but I do use a 1dx mkII and im sure it will be smaller and lighter than that but it will have to have improved CAF over the omd mkII .

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I think it's a fake. Someones cloned the top E5 shutter release onto it. Look at the bad bit of editing on the RHS of the shutter release.

But I could be wrong

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

If Olympus also launch the rumoured telephoto with a 100mm or 90mm front lens, something like 400mm F/4 or F/4,5 (or a 150-400 zoom for that matter) then the ergonomy/balance of the combo may benefit from a larger body. We don't know how much the weight of the rumoured vertical grip would push the weight scale, but should be less than a separate grip. Still for most m4/3 users I would guess that smaller is better. I'm also with Rob in that improvements in C-AF would be a an area I would like to see improvements. For instance a more reliable C-AF + TR. Sticking to same battery size as the Mark2, if true, is nice.
