Re: Magna Carta

Ah, the birthplace of our democracy, which was granted to an elitist few. I love the colours.

Re: Magna Carta

When you're in the area you ought to see the Ankerwyke Yew, which isn't far away:

https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/run...res/ankerwycke

It was old at the time of the signing of the Magna Carta (some say that it marks the actual location) and also King Henry the 8th met with Anne Boleyn under it.

It's massive when you get close to it, but not very photogenic.

Nice autumnal scene with and added bit of history.

Re: Magna Carta

Fabulous light and luxuriant colours.
Is that eight-legged memorial really tilted backwards (or forwards from the opposite side)?
Alcohol should not be allowed on building sites.

Re: Magna Carta

Nice images... and how appropriate the leaves are currently shrivelling and falling off.

By the time I'd found my memory card I was just happy to get a shot.

Re: Magna Carta

I mentioned earlier the existence of the nearby Ankerwycke Yew. I've dug out a couple of images that may be of interest to those entertaining a visit to the area. They don't really warrant a thread of their own, so I thought that I'd 'piggy-back' them onto Beagletorque's thread.

The first one is of a map of the Ankerwycke area. The second is of the yew tree. It's not very photogenic - from the outside it's just an amorphous mound of green. The trunk is interesting as like most ancient yews the middle is rotted out. You can look into the tree to see a maze of 'secondary' trunks, like contorted pillars. Early spring is a good time to visit as the surrounding area is full of snowdrops.

I posted a NT link to Ankerwycke earlier and reproduce it here:
