Re: All of the starlight ever produced measured

I saw Queen at the Victoria Hall in Stoke in 1973. They must have been supporting Mott the Hoople but I can't remember them on the night! I'd never heard of Queen at the time but they were fantastic.

I saw Genesis supporting Caravan in (I think) 1970! I saw the Floyd at Earls Court in 1994, the gig that subsequently became released as the "Pulse" DVD. Terrific stuff . I don't know if it's true but I'd like it to be - apparently David Gilmour booked one of the Pink Floyd tribute bands for his 60th birthday bash. I bet they were nervous!

You were lucky to see them both. Queen supporting Mott the Hoople? Nice.

99% sure it was Mott, but I’d need to hunt out the ticket to be sure. Never saw Talking Heads, mores the pity, same with Dire Straits despite loving the early albums, Making Movies in particular.

Genesis played our school end of term ‘dance’. Fond memories of Gabriel’s story telling about the Giant Hogweed and more. Talking of tribute bands, there was a Canadian one (I think) called Musical Box who did note perfect versions of the early Genesis stuff.

Would these be popular music artists being discussed here?

Would it be any less accurate than "Nine million bicycles in Beijing"?

You’d probably think of them as ‘popular beat combos’ or even ‘beatniks’

I was brought up on "Mares eat oats and does eat oats, and little lambs eat ivy. Kids'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you?"
