OI Share - raw+JPG surprise

Just in case anyone is interested or as puzzled as I was....

Apart from a bit of experimentation, I've not really used OI Share until now. For some work I had to get through today, it was just the job and I ended up taking a couple of hundred shots with it using my E-M1 MkII.

When I downloaded the images, I was surprised to find I had a raw+JPG for each image. I normally shoot raw only so thought I must have changed the setting for some reason and forgotten to put it back as I like it (I do tinker with the settings sometimes), but no, the camera was still set to raw only.

A quick google found another person who'd noticed this but there was nothing I could find on the Olympus site to document this behaviour. One theory from the thread I found was that the camera does this so there is a JPG to transfer back to the smartphone.

Re: OI Share - raw+JPG surprise

At one stage of the EM1/2 I changed to just RAW. Upon finding out that I could not download to the phone using the Wifi, I changed back to RAW + JPEG.

So unclear what you have come across...........

Re: OI Share - raw+JPG surprise

My point is that my camera is set to raw only. When I use the app, however, this setting is overridden and the camera creates a jpg as well as the raw file. This doesn't suit my workflow.as I don't want to contaminate Lightroom with duplicate jpg versions, but it seems this is a consequence of the way the app works.

Re: OI Share - raw+JPG surprise

OI Share can only transfer jpegs so I guess it's because of that. OTOH, if you only use the app for remote view and shutter release then it won't change from raw only (I use it a lot that way).

That's the odd thing...I wasn't transferring to the phone directly. Just using live view and remote release. The camera gives me a review image on the phone but I think that's just the LCD image in effect. I tried downloading to the phone and that takes a few seconds for one image

Hmmmm, odd. That's not my experience. I use the app a lot for remote shutter and I only ever shoot raw. Never seen unwanted JPEGs.

Re: OI Share - raw+JPG surprise

Do you see the shot after you've taken it with the remote? The review phase, I mean...

Re: OI Share - raw+JPG surprise

Now I've played a bit more... using the app for only remote release gives me the expected raw. Enabling Live view causes the JPG to be created as well.
