Leica 12-60 f2.8 - f4..?

Has anyone here owned this lens, and how does it compare to the Olympus 12-40 or even the 12-100 ?

I got one last week, but have not yet had the opportunity to use it, or compare it with my 12-100.

Well, stop messing about and use it...!
I't would be great to hear what you think as and when you do - to add to the list of demands - why do you have both the 12-100 and the 12-60 ?
Please and thanks, of course !

Probably GAS, but I wanted a walk-about, lighter weight lens to complement my Lumix G9, which itself is heavier than my EM-1, and also the 12-60 on the G9 has dual2 IS.

Well, should you decide that you are not going to keep both please let me know. I think I'd prefer the Olympus if that sways you..!

Re: Leica 12-60 f2.8 - f4..?

There's a comparison of the Leica 12-60 and the Olympus 12-40 on the well-respected Mirrorless Comparisons website here: https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/mic...-12-40mm-f2-8/

Heather has also compared it with the much cheaper Lumix 12-60 (https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/mic...te-comparison/) and queries whether its much higher cost is justified by its relatively minor improved performance.

Re: Leica 12-60 f2.8 - f4..?

Perhaps I shouldn't have taken another look at this lens....

As would-be purchasers will know, the going price at mainstream UK suppliers is around 879, with Mathers of Lancashire as usual undercutting them and selling it for 799. But I went to look at the Panasonic website to confirm its details and was amazed to see they were selling in for only 699!! I rubbed my eyes and checked that it was indeed the Leica lens and not the Lumix lens… and promptly bought one!

It's arrived today and is indeed an unused Panasonic Leica 12-60mm for only 699
First impressions are that it feels slightly lighter and smaller on my PEN-F than my Olympus 12-40mm, and not too much bigger than my Lumix 12-60mm. (I'll be selling the Lumix on soon, and deciding on whether or not to keep my Olympus 12-40 as well.)

I can't help thinking someone has made a silly mistake on the Panasonic website as they are listing the Lumix 12-60mm at 899 - which is much too expensive for a lens most retailers are selling for 330! No doubt they will realise their mistake when someone asks why the Lumix lens isn't selling but in the meantime it could be well worth your while visiting the Panasonic website if you're looking to buy the Leica lens

I got my one from HDEW for 499, and I know they are grey imports, but come with the dealers warranty, and I believe that HDEW are a reputable company.

Re: Leica 12-60 f2.8 - f4..?

It is a lovely lens. I have some portrait shots somewhere but my normal subjects are already on Flickr so here are a couple.

These are on the em5mk2 I have some on the G9 but I thought more useful to share pictures on Olympus cameras.

For me the colour clarity is exquisite and the sharpness is as good as my best macro lens. Plus smooth bokeh. I haven't used it as much as I should.

I would say if you want portrait shots it is a lovely lens. I will see if I can dig one out.

I have only borrowed a 12-40 for a day so have little experience to compare.
