screw size

Hi all,

Does anyone know or can tell me the specifications of the two little flat-headed countersunk screws that hold the tripod mount in place on the base of an E-5, please? Mine are missing.

Searching the internet I can see that them coming loose is an issue with E-3s and E-5s, so when I source new ones a drop of glue is going on the thread. Anyone else with an E-3 or E-5, it might be worth checking yours. I can't find any reference to the screw specifications though.

I have a whole load of tiny screws from various electronics and computer building projects, but not one is the right size.

Cheers,

Ivor

Re: screw size

Luton Cameras should be able to get them for you.

Re: screw size

Yes, thanks.

I was thinking of giving them a ring tomorrow as I also need a replacement rubber for the base of the camera too. The rubber is 6.50 for 1/2 a square inch and a bit of sticky tape, and that seems excessive to me.

Based on that, I suspect the screws, that probably cost 1.50 to buy a packet of 100 elsewhere will probably be 10 a pair from there. That was why I was wondering if anyone knew the dimensions.

Cheers,

Re: screw size

The only reference I can find for the screws is:

Item 277 Pt No.WE127012 Description PSTB24.5SN

You may find that an "alternative" approach may provide a solution:

Good luck

Re: screw size

Thanks Graham. I have just been hunting through ebay and found lots of watch screws, with rounded heads, but hadn't seen those. I'll give them a try.

Cheers,

Ivor

Re: screw size

I've just measured one out of my E-3, and I can't easily spot a replacement on line in the UK,
M2 x 5mm wafer head, but with the smaller diameter head, rather than the normal 4mm ones.
2nd item on this page from the USA

M2x5mm OEM Wafer Head
LaptopMachine Screw
Average Overall Length: 5.45mm
Average Head Width: 2.81mm
Average Head Thickness: 0.63
Thread Pitch: 0.40
Drive: Phillips
Item #10139

The ones on my E-5 are slightly shorter at 4.5mm overall and silver, rather then black, so maybe it depends on which batch of screws they used.

N.B. I've not been able to check the thread pitch as I've no metric thread gauges and my 2mm taps and die seem to be missing out of the box.
I think they're probably over in Sheffield from when I was making some 2mm screws to repair a spotting scope.
