Spin-off from 'Guess the ISO'

After ditching the purchase of a 12-100 on grounds of size/weight I was seriously considering the Oly twin flash STF-8.

As you will all recall, back in the day, to achieve a small aperture at, lets say 100-200 ISO supplementary lighting in the form of flash was usually required for macro.

But after reading DavyG's thread 'Guess the ISO'.... http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49558.... I'm having second thoughts.

If results like this can be achieved at 6400 ISO then who 'needs' flash.

Thanks Davy, you could have just saved me 400 quid

Yes, I have no reason to doubt you, but my reasoning goes...
Macro flash is generally unnecessary with IQ being so good at high ISO enabling smaller apertures.

One may find this useful, the user recommends a mini ball head be placed between the rig and the flash head.
