Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

So many beautiful and colourful dramatic bird photos. Thanks folks for sharing. Yesterday, 2 Ibis and a bird of prey visited the garden in bright sunlight. The Ibis seemed quite happy for me to be there whilst they displayed their feathers to each other. I took several photos. The bird of prey, discovered the bowls of dog food (rice, meat and veg) we leave out for the dogs and it has learned to swoop in for their food when the dogs are not there.

Great photo! For birds in flight, please may I ask? what do you aim for first, is it the bird eye, would you use a single point focus for the shot?

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I use 9 spot in busy background, all points in sky shots in caf and pump button. also fastest shutter speed possible and if over 1/1000 no body or lens stabilisation for panning, if slower I use lens only ois. focus limiter set to fn1 to give 0/50m, 0/100m,0/200 m alter by pressing fn1 and turning dial to suit.found bbf on ael button moves lens too much as button is too stiff.not good enough to pick eyes out on bif. I also use dot sight on little fast birds etc.practiced at tip for many hours taking gull bifs.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

If you enlarge that you could hang it on your wall as Hida Ogden did in Coronation Street.

Good shot.

Thanks for spending the time in writing out those settings and thank you very much for your advice.

Very dull day, so pushed the ISO up to 2000, and works as a picture for me anyway...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I'm not a fan of the cold weather so I haven't been out with my camera since before Christmas. Here is a shot I found on my hard drive of a ruffled Ruff at Strumpshaw Fen back in September.
