Escaping the Heatwave
Once again more by necessity than design I find myself 300 miles south of Wang' at Hastings on Westernport Bay. Well this was a spur of the moment decision taken yesterday before daybreak when I googled the week's forecast and saw that temps would be in the mid 40C's, so I took the iron horse and bolted. It's a gorgeous 25C here (21C cooler than Wang) and forecast to remain so at least for the next several days. So this morning I took a 10 minute stroll to the supermarket and couldn't resist shooting the smiling faces of a row of sunflowers by a neighbour's fence. Would you believe it, I deliberately left the M5 Mkii at home in favour of the XZ2, but even that I had left at Sandra's where I'm house-sitting while she's in Tasmania, so these were taken with the proverbial "best camera", the one I had with me, the phone!. ![]() ![]()

Re: Escape from the Heatwave
I have a friend who lives an hour or so north of Sydney and he is sweltering right now with temperatures in the 40s. I might suggest he joins you - it's 40s here too, but Fahrenheit

Re: Escape from the Heatwave
Thanks Mark.
Your friend is right, Otto, temps are in the 40's over most of the country and are forecast to remain so for the quite some time. I'm not sure which is worse, 40C or 40F, both uncomfortable although 40C is the more dangerous a a number of levels. And yes, the phone does have a reasonable camera for snapshots, but as far as smartphones go the Samsung S8+ is among the worst I've had.

Re: Escape from the Heatwave
Thanks Mark, I like this little village of Hastings a lot, and would rather be here by the sea than Wang'.

Re: Escape from the Heatwave
May be worth trading your shack in Wang for a cabin in Hastings. What with climate change and sea level rise perhaps a boat would be better!

As for your second suggestion, without the likes of MJ224 I would be all at sea.

Seriously though, you can protect yourself down to -50C with appropriate clothing. There's no appropriate clothing to protect yourself against +50C. I'm guessing, but I suspect that a day out in +50C will kill you, because you're unlikely to be able to drink enough and sweat to keep the body temperature down. Jim |

Re: Escape from the Heatwave
I would have to sea it first. Sail over and let me take it to Antarctica on a sixty knot northerly, I'll pay you on arrival, Mark ...
