I'm back!

Hello everyone, after a couple of years away, dabbling with Fuji, I have returned to the fold.
Now the proud owner of an EM5 ii and a Pen-F, along with a few lenses.
It's nice to be back among you friendly folk!
Dave.

Welcome back Dave!

Naturally, we don't encourage a mine is better than yours argument but I'm sure we'd be interested to know why you switched back from Fuji?

Re: I'm back!

Way back I suffered a spinal injury which despite being repaired developed into a spinal cord problem. This in turn caused damage to the nerves controlling my legs and right arm/hand.
As the damage progressed, my ability to hold a camera deteriorated and after trying the Fuji system before it was too late, I admitted defeat and returned to m4/3 with an EM5 ii and now a Pen-F. I generally hold the lens barrel with my left hand over the top and reach over with my left forefinger to operate the shutter, my right hand can help with support but not the shutter.
The Fuji System is nice but glass is expensive and in my situation, too large.
I knew the m4/3 system already so it was an easy decision.
Dave.

Re: I'm back!

Thanks Dave - I hope your condition is under control. Would a remote release be of any help? I use one sometimes when using my smartphone as a camera, simple for convenience rather than for any disability, but as you may know using a smartphone conveniently can sometimes be difficult for photography.

Re: I'm back!

I have tried but short of using a monopod fastened to my wheelchair, I really couldn't see any advantage.
The monopod set-up is handy for my scope and telephoto stuff but is rather cumbersome to use.
I manage ok, just hope the problem doesn't get any worse.

Re: I'm back!

Welcome back Dave and we all hope that you can continue to enjoy your hoby. Have you thought of a wired remote with the remote bluetacked to the camera body so it can be used with your thumb? (Other colours of tacky substance are available).

Re: I'm back!

I have tried a variety of aids, including a wired remote but nothing really helped. I did try a flash bracket ; the main problem was the grip was on the wrong side - ok for using the left hand for the shutter but no control of the lens or other buttons.
In the end I just reverted to my over-the-lens method. I don't really attempt any CAF crossing shots, but that's no big deal. I always use the EVF using my eye socket as a brace to assist my right hand.
The trouble with it is my fingers won't curl to grip the body, I've tried grips but they aren't much help. I find they defeat the small form factor and make the body deeper.
I'm fine the way things are so it's no big deal.
Dave.

Re: I'm back!

I know what you mean about the micro 4/3 system and nerve troubles

Moving to the EM1-II was a revelation to me I can't say I am back to talking a lot of pictures, but at least I take my camera out with me now.

Welcome back

Regards
Andy

Re: I'm back!

Glad to hear you're back to taking photos and the smaller camera works for you.

I suppose you will already have tried turning the camera upside down so the controls are the other side?

Best of luck with whatever works for you, hope to see some of your photos soon!
