Looks good from just that picture. Nice mid-range specs.

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

Lens now released with more details and press release at https://www.43rumors.com/olympus-12-...lly-announced/.

Sounds a nice replacement for my M.Zuiko 14-150mm, and its lighter and smaller than my 12-100mm. I'd expect IS for the price ($899 or 899 Euro) , but that seems to be reserved for the PRO lenses! Hopefully prices will drop over the next 6 months if Brexit doesn't send all imports sky high!!

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

OK, I've seen this review of it that quotes that price: https://www.photographyblog.com/news...200mm_f3_5_6_3

Available from late March, so I've time to get saving

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

MTF seems pretty poor at 12mm in the edges.

200mm looks more even, but pretty poor at 60lppm meridional even in the centre. And don't even look at the edge!

It'll be interesting to see real-world reviews.

For a comparison, here's the 12-100 MTF:

From a marketing / selling point of view, I'm guessing this is to help Olympus CSC with 12-200 look like an attractive alternative to folk considering bridge cameras with huge zoom factors.

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

I hope that it is available at The Photography Show in March, at least to look at and play with, if not to buy.
This looks like a unique lens. Well done Oly!

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

Sounds a good compromise lens. If I was starting out I would almost certainly be very tempted.

But as I have invested in the 12-40mm Pro and the 40-150mm Pro + the TC 1.4, I am reluctant to give those up. The Pro lenses are just so good......

At 800 though, it's hardly cheap. I think I'd prefer a used 12-40 and 40-150 combo - probably not a lot more. Maybe 1100 total.

I know what you mean, we have been spoilt. I think that the 12-100 would be a better bet and around the same price to. Maybe going from 12 to 200mm is pushing it a bit.

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

There are some sample shots over on DPReview - https://www.dpreview.com/samples/450...sample-gallery

They pretty much confirm what the MTFs say - this isn't a Pro lens - by a long way; especially at the long end. It'll do a turn, but you wouldn't want to be doing much cropping or pushing of the files since the sharpness and micro-contrast just aren't there.

At 800 I reckon it's a pretty tall order. At half that I'd perhaps live with the compromises, but there's no way this is worth 800 of my money. I reckon an RX10ii or an FZ2000 would perform just as well and you'd get a free camera with it!
