Lightroom 6 CC - Startup Problems

If anybody else is running the CC version of LR/PS via the Creative Cloud application you may have problems with starting up LR6 after install.

I installed in the normal way via the CC application on my PC last night but LR6 refused to start. The solution is simple as it turns out.

Once installation is complete you have to sign out of the CC application via the preferences sub menu in the CC tools menu and then sign in again. All is well after that.

This is the second time I've had LR problems after major version installs. Not good from Adobe given the basic nature of that.

Pleased to say that although I have not had time to really look beyond a shallow play LR6 has some noticeable performance improvements so it's worth it.

Hope this helps someone if they have problems.

Re: Lightroom 6 CC - Startup Problems

I had to use Hec's solution on both my Mac and Macbook. After doing that it started perfectly. Thanks, Hec.

Re: Lightroom 6 CC - Startup Problems

I had no problems with Lightroom CC startup.

However, as a somewhat related heads-up I just had an email from Adobe that they're "working hard" on the next version of CC, and that in order to be able to use it, I'll need to be running Mac OS X 10.9 at least.

Which after some googling, translates out to "Mavericks" or "Yosemite", rather than the "Mountain Lion" I'm still otherwise quite happily on.

Bummer. Looks like I'll be forced onto Yosemite one way or another, unless I want to stick with older versions of the apps. Which kind of defeats the whole point of subscribing to CC in the first place!

They've got you coming and going, these software companies...

Re: Lightroom 6 CC - Startup Problems

Well, at least the upgrade to Yosemite is free, and it works very well. I see no reason not to update.

I agree with Yosemite & the latest version has sorted out releasing memory after apps close better.

Re: Lightroom 6 CC - Startup Problems

Not if you bought LR5 outright - though I'm not sure if £103.88 is the upgrade price or the full outright price. The full price from Amazon is £100.

According to Photoshop.com blog you can also purchase a traditional license of Lightroom 6 for $149 (for those new to Lightroom) and $79 (for previous Lightroom customers). Please note that this version of Lightroom does not have access to any of the mobile or web workflows supported by Creative Cloud, and only Creative Cloud members receive ongoing feature updates.

Although this is for USA, there must be an option in UK.

Re: Lightroom 6 CC - Startup Problems

Thanks guys. I can get an upgrade for under £60 from the Adobe site, so that will be the way forward for me I think.
What are the advantages of 6 over 5?

Dave,
"Photomerge" is the new feature that Adobe are making the most noise about. This enables you to create HDR and/or Panoramic images directly from the RAW files you have imported and then saves the resulting image as a DNG file without having to roundtrip your source images to 3rd party s/w such as AutoKolor Pano etc..

I had a quick play with this yesterday and it did a decent job with a 3 shot HDR merge.

However I was less impressed when generating a 7 shot panorama - it took ages and as for 'Photomerge runs as a background task' this is a bad joke! The result also showed some tonal variations in the sky region around the boundaries of the stitch lines. In my experience AutoKolor Pano does a better job.

It also seems that the DNG output from the Photomerge operation is a wrapper around a de-beyered image in their 16bit Prophoto format because these files are enormous (e.g. 350Mbyte for the 7 image pano).

The other facility that Adobe promote is the facility to use the Brush tool for modifying the effects of applying a Normal or Radial filter.

Also if you are in the habit of generting Web slideshows, be aware that Adobe have removed all the Flash based templates from the LR Slideshow module.

At this stage, and since my E-M1 is satisfactorily supported using LR 5.7, I have yet to be convinced that the 59.09 spent on the LR6 upgrade was money well spent.

I have recently updated from LR5x to LR6 for 59.09. The problem is it is ver, very hard to find the right link.

I ended up deleting ALL the cookies and history, logged out of Adobe Cloud and all other Adobe apps, then tried again going to the lightroom page. Go to the very bottom of the page and on the right should be a link to LR stand alone.

This will only show if you have deleted all cookies and are logged out of ALL Adobe apps.

From this point it was easy

Definitely worth the upgrade though.

Hope this helps.
