One of our club members brought in a couple of A3 prints from these guys, very nice quality, very good price, just over a quid for an A3.

Even though I haven't yet used DS Colour Labs myself, I too can vouch for their standard. Two of my club's best workers use them regularly and have had Salon acceptances with prints that they have had done.

Re: Cheap printing offer until 30-Jan-2010

I just signed up with photobox but there was also http://www.digitalab.co.uk/ in my search results.

New years resolution is to get printing and I'm too tight to take on an inkjet

Seen results from Digitallab and it's fantastic. I'm sending over a few photos during the week to get printed.

Many thanks for this tip off. I have just received 3 16x12 prints from them. Excellent quality 1.05 each.

Re: Cheap printing offer until 30-Jan-2010

I just went through a set of regular 6x4.5" prints from photobox, a collection of colour and B&W images, to compare them with how they look on my laptop screen.

Now, its only a cheap Dell laptop and I am using the sRBG screen profile that came pre-loaded with the video driver. But from looking at the prints I can see:
  1. There is a definite colour cast to the B&W's, like a subtle warm tone. My screen may be a little blue, but these are purely grey images turning out warm in the print.
  2. The print saturation seems to be cranked up a couple of notches. This is a bit more difficult to judge as my screen could well be undersaturating, but it seems pretty pronounced in the print.
  3. Tones seem a bit brighter in the print. Again even less easy to judge as this could well be down to my lack of calibration.

But I am willing to bet that these are settings applied by photobox, designed to produce pleasing prints for their main customers. This isn't a complaint from me, as the differences could be largely down to my setup. And clearly photobox are aiming at the compact-camera consumer market. I don't have a problem with this.

But I will try one of the other print services next time to get more comparisons.

Re: Cheap printing offer until 30-Jan-2010

Actually no, I'm guessing because my first order was for a couple of A3 prints and I was half expecting the calibration print to come with the bunch of 6x4.5's I ordered after, but it didn't.

No matter, I will include the calibration print with the next lot.

Re: Cheap printing offer until 30-Jan-2010

Hi I just checked out these people, I use proam myself and so do a lot of professional photographers, and their prices are cheaper still I had 7 prints done at 16x12 inches including postage came to 13.75 which works out at 1.96 each and they are excellent quality matching the screen image exactly.

The more images you send for printing the cheaper they become, I sent my images in on the monday afternoon with their download service and got the prints back on Tuesday afternoon, how quick is that.

I showed the prints to a couple of members in our club and they were blown away with the quality.

Re: Cheap printing offer until 30-Jan-2010

I just got a couple of A3 prints back from digitalab.co.uk

They are warm-toned b&w images (see them in Foto Fair). Overall tonality is spot on, the only minor problem is a slight crop off one edge which I put down to a problem with precise image sizing.

Pleased with the prints though

Re: Cheap printing offer until 30-Jan-2010

Hi Alistair, The prints I get from proamimaging are spot on no colour tone just true black and white and the tonal range is amazing and dont get any crop off's as they print 12x 16 which is the crop dementions of our 4/3rds, plus they are sharper than any other prints done else where and they are a wet print process which means they have an ultra hard surface, hard to mark or scatch. I dont work for these people but I was told about them by some pro photographers and at the price I dont think you can beat them in quality and price.
