Re: BLN-1 Battery Cases

How durable is 3D printed stuff? First saw it a few years ago now when a colleague brought in a professionally made printed tiny trainer (her husband worked for a shoe manufacturer) and it was very brittle, in fact as we passed it around the desks it got broken, much to everyone’s dismay!
So, basically, is the stuff nowadays more durable? The cases in the photo certainly look like I remember the trainer looked.

Re: BLN-1 Battery Cases

Tim - I have been using Beagletorque's battery covers for a couple of years without problems. They get knocked around in the camera bag, and the batteries get slid in and out every time they need a charge. So they are certainly fine when young - whether the plastic becomes more brittle over the long term is of course yet to be seen.

I am still very pleased with mine.

John

Re: BLN-1 Battery Cases

The plastic I made them from is PETG. They are reasonably strong, but how long they might last is a good question. I still use the original ones I made for myself a couple of years ago and they are fine. I found this photo which was in the original discussion, though I don't recommend you try this at home!

Re: BLN-1 Battery Cases

I wish you could buy empty versions of the ones the original Olympus ones ship with, although I do like the snazzy blue colour. Maybe a 3D printer needs to be sourced - for evaluation purposes!
