Glamping at Warwick castle

Glamping = Glamour Camping

The glamping site consists of 35 large bell tents. There is a purpose built restaurant area serving cooked breakfast and evening BBQ; or you could take advantage of the medieval banquet at the castle (depending on dates). There are loos, showers, and a pamper tent with mirrors & hairdryers.

Off to one side is a covered area for young children to play (various games) and a space set aside for Knight school, Jester school, and Archery.

The tents are carpeted with a sturdy chest, stools, and air matresses (bring your own sleeping bag - this is camping after all) and big enough for a large family with space to spare. Room to stand!

During the day visit the castle. In the evening relax with a bottle of wine in the quiet of the forest camp site. Having a 2-day or weekend weekend visit means there is plenty of time to fit everything in and you are not rushing about. Pictures of the castle and events taking place therein will follow when processed.

Thanks for looking.

How civilised!

Shouldn't the tents be striped, though?

Re: Glamping at Warwick castle

I had hoped the tents would be striped as well - it was billed as medieval style camping. Not only do you get 2 days to explore the castle but the glamping price includes castle entrance for both days making the overall price not much more than a day visit for a family.

Re: Glamping at Warwick castle

What a wonderful way to spend a weekend, OM - looks like a whole load of fun ... that's what you Poms have that we don't, more than 2,000 years of traditions and history to draw upon. Mind you, I can't see me enrolled in the Knight school, the idea of jousting turns me right off ... unless of course the winner gets to date Vanessa Redgrave!

Re: Glamping at Warwick castle

Paul,
My understanding is that it is now owned by the "Merlin" group (Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Madame Tussauds, Legoland Windsor Resort etc). They have clearly spent a lot of money. Without trying to detract from it I might venture that it is a bit like a "theme park" with the theme being a medieval castle and the castle taking centre place. Rather than having lots of "rides" which would be a dissapointment they have lots of medieval activities instead. As well as the spectating events jousting/battles/birds/trebuchet I have already mentioned and wandering around the state rooms in the castle, they also have a number of "horrible history" events scattered around (chance to dress up as Normans, row a Viking boat etc), hear the story of King Arthur and the Sword, listen to fairy stories in the princess tower, and paint your own shield.

Being part of a large entertainment group and striving to maintain the customer experience also means that, like the other venues in the chain, all these activities happen all the year round and you can just turn up knowing what to expect (and presumably not finding them closed).

Re: Glamping at Warwick castle

We had a bell tent in the Scout group - one person per panel, heads at the outside, feet to the tent pole. Cost £3 for a weeks camping including food and transport.

Re: Glamping at Warwick castle

That seems a great way to see Warwick Castle. I seem to remember that it was horrendously expensive to visit for the day. So much so that my wife and I gave it a miss when we were on holiday in the area a few years ago.

I have been to Warwick Castle with work though. I once had to pick up someone from Cardiff and take him to Warwick Castle. He kind of looked familiar but it wasn't until we got to Warwick Castle and there were large banners saying 'Meet Merlin Today' that I realised it was Colin Morgan who plays Merlin in the TV series. What threw me was the fact that he has a strong Northern Irish accent in real life.
