GH2, Oly 9-18mm

I found a GH2 with the 14-42mm for £360 but if anyone here has a better deal?

Looking to buy a 9-18mm aswell, I saw one here recently go for £220, I'm on a tight budget at the moment, since I can only spend what I sold my last gear for so I'm looking for around that price :s

If anyone is interested I have a Pentax K5 body for sale , One of the best APS-C cameras on the market.

Thanks,

(I know I'm new here, if its any issue I can provide my ebay account and previous forum trades that I've done)

Do you mean the M version of the 9-18? if so, £220 is really low. I bought mine for £350 and thought I got a good deal! New price at procamerashop (about cheapest online retailer in UK) is selling it at £459.

Re: GH2, Oly 9-18mm

I don't mind the regular 4/3 version actually, obviously I'd pay more for the m version though, 350 seems like an okay price. I need to sell my K5 body before I can buy one though.

Mind I ask how your finding the 9-18mm? I've always wanted an ultra wide but I never got around to buying one. How would you compare it to the 7-14mm? Do you think it would be better to get the 9-18mm or get a Sigma 10-20mm and use that with an adapter?

I bought the GH2 by the way, it was off CEX though so hopefully it will be a good condition. If anyone is also interested I saw them list a GH1 with a 14-140mm for only £345, I could swear the lens alone can go for that price? Although the condition of the item is another matter since they don't post photos of it.

Re: GH2, Oly 9-18mm

Hi. - I'm very happy with my 9-18. The IQ is perfectly acceptable - not the sharpest lens I've used, but way better than many. Contrast is no issue and the overall results are more than good enough for 16x20 printing. It's small and light too, so fits the MFT philosophy perfectly.

In fact, I'm fairly new to MFT, having downsized from Canon FF. The 9-18 is filling the space left by my 17-40L. The FOV is very similar and whilst it doesn't have the ultimate resolution of the Canon lens when that's stopped down to f11 (the sweet spot of the 17-40), it's significantly better in the corners when wide open.

I can't directly compare it to the Pana 7-14, although I looked at that very closely. I ultimately didn't go that route due to concerns over purple flare, lack of a filter thread and almost double the price.

Finally, I had a Sigma 10-20 on my 40d some years ago and wasn't overly impressed - it had bad decentering problems and from memory it wasn't that sharp either.

The 9-18 I bought recently for 220 (on this forum, from Swordfish) was a Four-Thirds lens and it is lovely. It is also quite a bit larger than the mft version.

Sorry, I haven't had the 4/3 long and, in any case, I wouldn't feel qualified to comment onthe image quality.

Re: GH2, Oly 9-18mm

I have a spare FT 9-18mm (not mFT). Somehow I ended up with 2 of these, one made in China and the other made in Japan. After putting one up against the other I came to the surprising conclusion that the Chinese version was marginally the better of the two. IMHO the Japanese lens seemed a bit softer in the corners. Incidentally, I found both 9-18s I have a complete disaster on a Viltrox FT-mFT adapter: any corner softness is widly exagerated. Any thoughts?
Supplied with end caps and genuine hood. It will be in the box for the Chinese lens, so the serial number on the box will not match the lens. Looking for £280 including RM postage (2-3 days).

Re: GH2, Oly 9-18mm

I haven't noticed any excessive corner softness with my adapter :s

Thanks for the offer but I am no longer out to buy one since I got the Sigma 10-20mm. Unless you want to swap haha
