Re: Zuiko Digital ED 50-200 f2.8-3.5 SWD

Can I ask what photography competition please, Ryan? I am curious as to what competition this was as I didn't see anything about this, and as an avid Olympus user - and someone who would love to own the 50-200mm - I would have very much liked to have known about it.

Also... it's not really the done thing per sť for members to comment on prices being asked for items for sale on here, however I do agree with Timg, especially as this is also your 1st post on the site. My advice to you if you are seriously looking to sell your lens on eGroup, is to drop the price significantly (one was sold on here for £350 just last week - though admittedly that was a MKI and I would hazard a guess yours is a MKII). This is a very close and open community, where items are bought and sold on a regular basis because most of the members on here know each other (only through here, but we do know each other pretty well). Asking for such a lot of money for what I agree, is an excellent lens, with this also being your first post - is not likely to obtain you a buyer.

Please note: I am not trying to be obstructive, or rude or unwelcoming... I am just being totally realistic, and offering you some simple advice to help you sell your lens.

Thanks

I do apologise if you took any offence Ryan, and I don't normally comment when people price things higher than I would personally expect... as you stated, it is new and never opened; I will now be quiet and let the market decide!

Good luck with the sale!

Just an add in re lens - I was probably in a similar situation to you of wanting a 50-200mm Oly SWD lens but couldn't afford one.
But, after a while of keeping a watch on prices, I then luckily noticed Ffordes selling a new Sigma APO 70-200 f2.8 lens four thirds mount (which Sigma stopped supplying a while back), reviews looked okay, and I bit the bullet.
What a lens at a great price, and what a joy to use for its wonderful sharpness and tiny depth of field at times which makes the image subject matter really jump out. So add this to the list and keep an eye out just in case.

Regards
Chris

Yep, fixed aperture all the way through!

I'll post some shots in Foto Fair sometime soon, but 'I'm luvin it' to misquote a certain advert for something that is allegedly tasty!

Re: Zuiko Digital ED 50-200 f2.8-3.5 SWD

Chris, thanks for posting this info and you pics, it does look like a viable alternative to the 50-200. I too am one who'd like to upgrade from the 70-300 and assuming this lens performs similarly with a ec14 or 20 then this lens is a contender.
Could you be kind to give and idea of the funds these fetch, around the price of a mk1 or mk2 50-200, or somewhere outside of the ranges the sort of monies these dictate as second user kit?

This initially started as a sale thread for an Oly 50-200 and after some good advice by music man, the thread has been completely hijacked. This wouldn't be tolerated on some other photography forums. Just saying....

Quite rightly pointed out, so my apologies to Ryan - as this has developed, could any further comments re the Sigma lens could be posted onto the Foto Fair thread about it.

Regards
Chris

Maybe more to the point, most other forums wouldn't allow a first post to be a (supposed) £1000 lens for sale......... just saying!

I love this forum, but hate that the for sale section has absolutely NO rules whatsoever......
