Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

Yesterday we took our children off to Staunton Country Park Nr. Waterlooville what a wonderful Park (in the summer its great for Dragonflies)

I was playing with settings - light was dreadful (a cold & overcast day) and it was difficult to get a 'sharp image'- occasionally the *SUN* came out ...
but I think I have one here! This is is a crop and has a little sharpening

E-5 & 50-200 @ 208; F.5 1/1000 sec ISO 200

I almost want to take the Robin and the branch he is sitting on "out" in layers and put him on a white background of handmade paper
!

But what do you think ?

Nice shot, a light cream rather than white background?

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

It is a lovely sharp shot, but a white or cream background may make the shadow on the robin's left side look out of place, at the moment it is in context with the rest of the image - I would be interested to see the result.
Good luck
Iain

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

I don't normally venture into this section as I do not feel qualified to critique anyone's work.

BUT....I saw your Robin and thought that there's a good'un in there if you can get past the over saturation.
I had a play to see if I could correct it and the best I could get is below.
Hope it's O.K. to post a mod.
As for a layer of textured paper - no idea where to start -will leave it in your expert hands.

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

Nice shot Chevvy ... like the pose.

Suggestions:
1. Shadow/Highlight adjustment.

2. Add eye catchlight.

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

Iain, many thanks for your kind comments - I have not YET got to "doing any mods" I did one in Corel Painter with a hessian sacking/handmade paper in coffee & cream ... then we had a power cut then 3 more in the next 12 hours ... since then I had to re install my new PC with Win 7 and then all my Apps ... and I have lost my Mojo a bit ...

Keith and Mark thanks too for your kind comments and I really do appreciate each of your "mods" always welcome these and any hints & tips to make my fav shots better

I shall have a pop when I get dressed today

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

I have just had a little play - but my elbow is hurting so I have left it here - the shadow on the right needs painting down a shade or two and the white "paper" needs to be more "hessian" small texture

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

I find your treatment of this very effective, Chevvy.
Perhaps a catchlight in the eye would bring it more alive?

Re: Robin @ Staunton Coiuntryt Park

A neat way to do catchlights is to copy and paste from a bird that has one but be sure it's of the same species ... eagle's to sparrow's doesn't quite work!
