I have an E500 which has been oK but is a bit basic and it's time to move up to something a bit better.
I ma looking at the E30 which seems like a good camera. If I Just buy the body will the two kit lenses I have for my E500 be any good on an E30 until i have saved enough to upgrade gthem as well?

Re: E500 to E30 upgrade

In my opinion the two kit lenses (I mean the 14-42 and the newer 40-150) are pretty good optically.

If you take your 14-42 and imagine something slightly sharper, slightly brighter, somewhat heavier and better made.... then you have the 14-54 pro lens.

You will notice the difference when you examine your images at 100% on screen, and the pro lenses do feel very good to hold and use. They certainly give me an indefinable confidence when I am using them.

However the kit lenses are rather good, so the pro lenses have a hard act to beat, as it were.. I would go ahead, keep and use the kit lenses, and save up for better glass eventually

PS.. Here is a thought. Given that the 14-54 goes for a couple of hundred pounds - you might look on ebay.. Sometimes you see an E1 going for sale with its 14-54 attached for hardly any more money (!!)
Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

Re: E500 to E30 upgrade

Richard probably has a an older 14-45 or 17.5-45. In any case, both of these will work on the E-30. His tele kit lens may indeed be the older 14-150 f/3.5-4.5, and this is actually a pretty good lens, although the newer 14-150 is much smaller and lighter. None of the older lenses I have mentioned here will work in full live view autofocus mode with the E-30, but they will work in hybrid live view mode, which is pretty close - you just need to double check that focus is good before shooting.
