Panasonic 12-35 at MBP

Just a heads up that MBP have one of these lenses for what seems a very good price if anybody has any cash left.

http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/use...35mm-f/2.8-x-/

I don't have any connection with the shop although I understand they have a pretty good reputation from other forum members.

Re: Panasonic 12-35 at MBP

I bought a 5d off them some time ago but there was some nasty oil streaking on the sensor - they offered a clean, but I preferred a refund. This they did without any complaint at all and they also refunded my postage. It's when things go wrong that customer service comes to the fore and I found them excellent.

I later purchased a Canon 17-55 from them. The lens was a good price and exactly as described on the site. Arrived the morning after I ordered. No complaints.

Oh, the 12-35 is a great lens and £539 is an excellent price. Wish I'd seen this before I bought mine new during the summer

Nah - not everyone - but surely those who have went for the Oly Pro 12-40mm f2.8 lens which blows the Panny version out of the water...

Hi James,

I have both the Panasonic 12 - 35 and the Olympus 12 - 40. Whilst I have not had much chance to play around with the Olympus, so far I see little difference in terms of photo quality. But even with the little I have done, in no way does it 'blow the Panasonic version out of the water'.

In fact I would be very surprised if anyone could tell the difference between the two.

Best regards

Chris

Re: Panasonic 12-35 at MBP

I have the 12-35, for the simple reason I had it before the E-M1 and 12-40 was invented. I have never tried the 12-40, but I'm happy enough with the 12-35.

Not me, I still have my lovely E-M5, still performs as well at it did when new, still looks like new too
At this point in time I can't really see what extra the E-M1 over the E-M5 will give me (with the exception of the larger EVF) for rather a large outlay in cash

Edit: Back on subject, the 12-35 is fantastic compact high quality zoom, I doubt anyone would be disappointed with this lens, I'm sure the 12-40 equally as good but I can't see it blowing the 12-35 out of the water.

Re: Panasonic 12-35 at MBP

I've not upgraded to the E-M1 yet. I'm still pretty happy with my E-M5. The improved EVF, ergonomics and (maybe) improved C-AF do make me pause for thought from time to time, but then I think of the £450 that my E-M5 is probably worth and £1399 price tag on the E-M1 and suddenly I find myself happy again with the 5!

Regarding the 12-35 vs 12-40 debate - this thing about the 12-40 blowing the 12-35 out of the water is odd. There were some enthusiastic posters over on mu43 who said as much (but they were Americans and what do yanks know ). However, there was a thread over there last week with some comparison shots between the two on the E-M1 and as Chris confirms above, the differences were minuscule. In fact, the poster did note that CA seemed better controlled on the 12-35.

I'm sure the 12-40 is a great lens and I really hope that Oly sell a lot of them, but I suspect its IQ has been somewhat over-hyped to date.
