Exclamation Calling all E-system forum members your votes are needed to support Olympus with Dx0 Optics Pro

I took the plunge and bought the wonderful Dx0 Optics pro 6.0 package that Ian brought to our attention recently.

http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthre...ght=optics+pro

As he pointed out this is the first time that Dx0 have offered support to Olympus products. Part of the reason that I bought the package after a lot of thinking was that unless some Olympus users purchase it then Dx0 interest in supporting our favourite camera brand will be questionable.

Dx0 optics pro has turned out to be the software package for processing raw and jpeg files that I have been dreaming of . Quite simply it takes the hassle out of processing raw files. I have always struggled getting the colours to my liking using adobe camera raw, so much so, that I resorted to always shooting in RAW plus JPEG. Probably a lack of talent on my part but I wasted so much time in this area despite investing time and money in my pc workflow. Enough of my issues!

Optics pro has instantly solved this for me as it offers modules that can be downloaded for a particular camera body and better still individual lenses. The results using the lens modules are superb as lens distortion problems are automatically corrected. There are so many features within the software package that make life easier. For example one of my favourites is the ability to level the horizon just by drawing a line, then when processed it will level and crop the image automatically to correct it. All the normal colour, exposure, sharpening, white balance etc tools are available to tweek in addition to the automatic presets if required.

Currently the package offers support for

This is pretty impressive for a first offering given that Dx0 is a company with limited resources. I have been talking directly to Dx0 recently asking if they would offer support for the mighty E-1 which I fully expect to keep using for many years to come in addition to my E-3. Also there are a few missing digital Zuiko lenses, most notably the very popular 50-200mm. Ideally support for non Zuiko lenses would be nice.

So why am I asking for your support? Well it is quite simple, Dx0 has an online form that they use to obtain requests for future camera body and lens support. Andy at Dx0 tells me that they really do use this information to decide on which equipment they spend their valuable time in the labs testing and constructing software modules for. You do not have to have bought the software to register your wish list, the link for the on-line form is here:

http://www.dxo.com/intl/photo/suppor...b_availability

So please can you all take a few moments to fill it out to request future additions and hopefully Dx0 will react to the requests for greater Olympus support. In that way all of the Olympus community would benefit from increased coverage. It is so refreshing that Dx0 is supporting Olympus and other camera makers for that matter rather than playing it safe with N & C.

Thanks for your time everyone, happy New Year.

Chris

PS You can try the package on a 30 day trial basis by downloading the software directly from the Dx0 site
http://dxo.com/uk/photo/free_trial_version

PPS For those that have fond memories of the 35mm film era, the additional film package is excellent; it offers support for 50 of the most popular films.

I echo absolutely everything that Chris has said. I also find this software a great help in converting RAW files with much more capability than Adobe Camera RAW.

The automatic presets work pretty well too.

For me the most notable omission is the 40-150 lens, so I will flag that up as a request.

Hi, I also concur with Chris, and have now requested support for the 50-200 and 40-150 lens on the E620.

Re: Calling all E-system forum members your votes are needed to support Olympus with Dx0 Optics Pr

Currently there is no Version 6 with the Olympus support for us Mac users, this is one hurtle that is holding me back from trying out the Trial, anyone know when they expect to have Version 6 for the Mac available ?

Well I stand corrected after looking closer through the web site I found this information. Here

I guess we will have to have a look at it now

Hi, There is a free upgrade to v6 if you buy v5 now. Thats what have done, and I believe v6 is expected Q1 2010.
Hope this helps, you can of course try the free evaluation period.
