Major Malfunction

I love my E-M10 Mk.ii but recently it has stopped working. It turns on but with a blank screen and none of the buttons respond. Then after 2 seconds it powers down. I have tried new batteries, different lenses, different SD cards but it's always the same. It's out of warranty so just wondering if anyone knows about this issue and can help. Thanks.

Re: Major Malfunction

I have an E-M10 Mkii and haven't had this issue.

If it stays on for long enough I'd try a full reset but then I would contact Olympus the body repairs are listed as "estimate"

FWIW SRS have them new at £299 and cashback until the end of the month brings the total cost to £234

Re: Major Malfunction

I've never heard of this problem either but you could try Luton Cameras as they are very good and reasonable for Olympus repairs. Best call them to discuss it rather than email. They have done a couple of lenses for me and I've been really pleased with the cleaning and the service.

How do you know it's powering on and powering down if no screen? I'm not familiar with the E-M10.

I realise it’s talking about a 5 and not a 10 but it might be worth a punt

The screen shows a blank (dark grey) area but no info at all and there is a sound of something activating. Then after 2 seconds the blank grey screen turns off, there is another sound and that's it. None of the buttons work at any time - only the power on/off switch.

Thanks, it was worth a go but I've tried all the reset options. Left the battery out, etc and also none of the buttons work in any combination.

Not uncommon for systems to perform a 'health check' at power-up, and disable if a fault is detected to prevent further damage. But that's design practice in general. I have no knowledge whether Olympus do this or not.
Weakest link in any design is generally the interconnects.

Re: Major Malfunction

Does the screen light up when the lens is removed? I have had the blank screen when the lens contacts were faulty. Data still showed around the edges of the screen.

Checking them and cleaning might help but I've had to have the contacts replaced on a couple of occasions. If it occurs with any lens, suspect the camera body; if only with one lens, then it's the lens.

Re: Major Malfunction

It would be beneficial if camera played a variety of musical notes to help with the diagnosis. However, if the screen is still functional display an error code.
