PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

PDF Manuals are great for distributing reference material but a bit of a challenge to read when you need the data and you are not near the computer, or the pages have been printed out at great cost have fallen on the floor, or are flopping over your legs as you try to solve the problems at hand.

I have found that loading the PDF into the Reader app on my iPad (other tablets are available) gives me easy access to search and read the documents wherever I happen to be, easy on the train, plane or sofa at home.

Again YMMV

PDF docs are a real pain to read on a Kindle!

Plus you can keep them in DropBox.

(Other cloud hosting services are available.)

Actually, I subscribe to Adobe Send, which for 12 a year allows me to store unlimited numbers of PDF files online. I can send them to anyone as a link by email, and I receive notifications when they are read and downloaded.

Better still, I can send these documents from my phone or iPad when travelling, but because the documents are in the cloud I only have to send an email and link via my 4G connection, or from any browser.

Re: PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

It never occurred to me that people weren't doing this. I haven't opened a paper manual for at least a decade and have been viewing the PDF versions on a tablet since getting my first years ago.

Re: PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

I have the E-M1 (Vers. 4) manual on both my iPad & Android phone as it gives me a ready reference should I need it.

Re: PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

I keep a copy on my phone. Whether I could actually read it if I needed to I don't know.

I only raised the topic in case any one was getting snowed over with print outs.

I am so glad that there are so many tech literate chaps here.

Re: PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

I suspect that very few people read manuals from cover to cover anyway.

Keeping a copy on a phone or iPad is a handy way of finding information when it is needed out and about. Whilst PDF documents are not as readable as paper copies they are much easier to search and navigate.

Re: PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

If you only want certain pages, or parts thereof, you can make Word documents.

Frame the text you want. Press Shift & Print Screen then paste into your document. Save the document.

It will be as an image in a box and you won't be able to edit it. The Word View, Zoom will help with text size at the time of reading.

Re: PDF Manuals an easier way to read them.

I use Acrobat Professional which lets me create and edit Acrobat files, and delete pages, etc.

If you have scanned documents you can also run OCR (recognise text) which significantly reduces file size and makes text searchable and editable.

You can download a 30 day trial for free from Adobe.com
