Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

Recently got back from a packed holiday in Hong Kong. Photographic conditions were awkward at times (thank goodness for raw - lost count of how many times the haze buggered up auto white balance). Here's a few:

Re The Hong Kong Museum of Art, I think you've been playing with the PS distortion tool, Jason

Spectacular overview from the peak - must be a fascinating location to visit, I've travelled there in my arm chair only.

Nice set, the haze can be a real pain in HK, but I've seen worse :

Re: Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

Great to see these shots of somewhere I've never been. I look forward to seeing part 2 and more. Haze is what it is in my book, as that was how it looked it's fine. I think you did a great job especially on that last one it's a spectacular view.

Good shots. When we were there in Feb it was so bad it wasn't worth going up the Peak.

Re: Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

That last shot is clearly showing the haze you mentioned. It also gives a good idea of the whole layout. Thanks.

Re: Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

Interesting set of pictures! Most Chinese cities seemed plagued with serious haze now; pollution really is a big problem there. No doubt they will have a cunning plan to deal with it! Surprised to see a US warship docked there, too.

Thanks for posting.

Re: Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

I hope you don't mind me posting this, it's just to demonstrate that you can sometimes get lucky and there is little or no haze. Doesn't happen often these days though.

Re: Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

Nice shots Jason,

Changed a bit since I was there in 68, mind you we were on the Chinese border with a base in Sek Kong - Vietnam was still going and we had some fun times in the China Fleet Club (US facility) and Raffles hotel.

Kowloon side with shanty dwellings and red star ferry past Stonecutters Island (military prison at that time).

Kai Tak was the main airfield - bad landing=sinking plane!

Lan Tow Island was the place to keep fit (plenty of hills to run up)....a good 3 month tour!

Ah memories!

Re: Hong Kong Part 1 - Hazy Day

Nice set Jason, the last also gets my vote. Not wishing to be too 'picky', the warship in 4 is actually an Arleigh Burke class DDG 'USS Michael Murphy'.

Nice shot from the bit of a lookout owned by the Lion Club?
