"...flying 6 feet apart at 400mph..."

The title was one of many memorable quotes during the Red Arrows display at the 'Best of Bristish' show at Cotswold Airport yesterday.

The planes arrived mid-morning then took off for a display elsewhere, returning to Kemble in time for their second display of the day.

I have never really used the art filters on my E-P3, but the dramatic tone filter seemed appropriate to some of these shots:

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was the last part of the display - the Lancaster Bomber and the two Spitfires above arrived and parked a few hundred yards in front of us.

At this point, I decided to try out a Zuiko 200mm f4 lens (with an MF-2 adapter) that I recently bought very cheaply on ebay. I was quite pleased with the overall sharpness when I first reviewed the image, although on closer inspection it turns out that the RAF must have painted the edges of their planes a distinctive purple colour... and

Earlier in the day, a tornado put on a display that included simulated attacks - a good bit of noise to accompany the aerobatics.

Fantastic pictures and some very interesting framing. Nos 1 &3 give a great sense of the skill of these pilots and you have resisted the temptation to just get the planes in view. No 4 must be an inverse version of pooh sticks, very artistic for you to have spotted that one. Such a little camera I bet the canikon users must having been smiling when you pulled out your equipment, if only they could see the results. I like them all thanks for sharing.

Re: "...flying 6 feet apart at 400mph..."

Thanks to both of you for the comments - glad you like these! And Birdboy, you are absolutely right, the canikon users don't seem to even register that you are using an E-P3 any more than they would someone snapping away with a phone. This is part of the attraction of m43 of course - I was there with my son to enjoy the event and not just to take pictures. The (in my view, anyway!) ridiculously oversized and no doubt heavy DSLRs that were all around would just dominate your whole experience of the day and can't help but take 'centre-stage' no matter what you are doing. If I ever find myself wearing some sort of body harness with huge compartments dangling from it, while trying to simultaneously look through the two viewfinders of cameras bigger than my whole bag of m43 gear then I'll know that I've lost my way in the world...

Looks like you had a great day. I like no. 10 & 14 most. To bad you didn't upload the photos into your gallery. That way you could have participated also in the challenge flight. I also wanted to see the exif data of these shots.

Looks like someone else has been enjoying a flying display over the bank holiday. A great series of shots, thanks for sharing these.
