Flight of the Sacred Ibis

Being a bitterly cold, heavily overcast day I thought it would be an interesting exercise to see how the old four thirds SWD 50-200 would perform on the M1.2 in high speed sequential mode.
I am pleasantly surprised that it performed so well, AF was accurate and fast in spite of the low light conditions. The images were captured in RAW and initially processed in Olympus Workspace and finished in Photoshop CS3

Here are the first six frames of its flight M1.2 + SWD 50-200, 1/1000, f/3.5, EV -0.7, ISO 1600, 200mm, WB 6000K, distance approx. 50 yds

Re: Flight of the Sacred Ibis

Cool set Mark, I would have used ProCap, but your reactions are pretty quick...………...Nicely caught

Re: Flight of the Sacred Ibis

Thanks Mark, I haven't as yet got my head around ProCap mode for as you say my reactions are quick, or more likely, the bird is slow! I've noticed that big birds like the Ibis lean forwards ever so slightly
before launching so you trip the shutter the instant it does. Even small to medium sized birds signal their intention by a sort of nervous look about, just as we do to avoid colliding with a car or a yacht!

In a beauty competition it would leave your Happy Spider for dead!

Smart shots Mark and super bokeh too. I suspect you'll be keeping that lens.

Re: Flight of the Sacred Ibis

Phill, OM, Keith, thanks. Will definitely hang on to the SWD 50-200, Phill. It may come in handy if ever there's a veteran camera club rally!

I think you'd qualify without the lens!

In Spike Milligan style, my epitaph is to read, "Now do you believe me " (fact)

Re: Flight of the Sacred Ibis

Nice set. Pro Capture would give you a lot of photos to select from (nice to have for very fast action though).
