Back in business

After selling my em10ii body, I've been camera-less for a couple of weeks. I finally picked up an em5ii with grip today, so back at it seems a nice solid piece of kit. I've quickly set a few base settings and charged the battery, if the weather holds out I'm going on a poppy field hunt.

Talking of charging the battery, there's my only annoyance so far .... I saved my spares from the 10ii... But (obviously) they don't fit, why on earth would I have thought Olympus would use the same batteries!

So now I need to buy at least one spare, and move these on, but believe I won't be able to post used lithium batteries on their own?

Yeah I know the pain. EM1mk1 shares the same battery as the EM5s

While the EM10 all are the same as the PENs.

And EM1ii and EM1x are similar.

Same family but not the same plant, I think!

Found a nice field full of them, but it was very grey, windy and raining, so not the best conditions. I'll see what I got later when I take the card out

I believe that the E-M5ii battery is the same as that in the E-M1, for which there are plenty of reasonably-priced, fully-compatible spares. I have had no problems with ExPro batteries in my E-M1 and E-M5 cameras.

Unfortunately, the battery for the E-M1ii is different and, as far as I know, there is still no fully compatible battery that retains all the features, such as battery-life display. The genuine Olympus battery prices remain high.

I look forward to seeing results from your new camera.

Re: Back in business

When I bought my EM5 Mk1, it had an addtional battery and free 45mm 1.8.

I bought a third Oly battery

My Pen F had another battery (the Pen camera thst takes a differrent battery to all the others)

My EM5 Mk2 came with 2 batteries (power grip kit).

That's now 6 in total.

It's a deliberate and cynical strategy to lever more money out of the consumer. Canon are one of the worst offenders with their printers, updating them regularly by design rather than specification and, of course, with a new type of ink cartridge to prevent the buyer from using third party compatibles. As soon as the budget ink manufacturers catch up, Canon introduce a new model.

Re: Back in business

Anyway, I took a few photo's. Nothing special, rain and wind aren't the best conditions for poppies it seems! Although at least I got to try the camera out and it got rained on, which was the whole point of switching bodies!
I'm calling it a scouting mission, to find the field and then if the poppies survive the forecast storms this week (and the visitors), I might go back early on Saturday for some golden light... if there is any!

The Pen F uses the same batteries as the EM5. The other Pens use a different one that is the same as in the EM10.

Re: Back in business

The first shot is an excellent composition and works despite the flat light, because of the vibrancy of the poppies. I hope you get the opportunity to revisit this location in more favourable light.
