It's got the whole m43 community taken in.
Im hoping so... I was hoping for an over sized sensor and multi aspect gimmickry plus computational trickery on top of all that. At a time of shrinking sales of real camera and growing full frame, Olympus need to be at the very pinnacle of their game. Now!

Call me puzzled.

But lets hope the 25 AF area makes it to the MkII in a firmware upgrade!
Maybe, maybe not, but you'll be able to buy a Silver E-M1 Mk II though.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Have to say when you look at Pauls comparison it's not what one would call ground breaking for 100th anniversary model
Hopefully tomorrow will clear it all up
Rob.

- Ginormous

Seems to me that over the E-M1ii:

- It's the same sensor and AF hardware
- The IBIS is enhanced so allowing hand held hi-res
- They've re-written the AF algorithms
- They've added some more CPU to speed things up

...I really hope that the new AF pleases the action photographers...
The general gripe with some people was that you could not use Olympus equipment for sports and wildlife because:

focus was not quick enough or accurate enough
CAF did not do what it was meant to do
The size was not balanced for the biggest of the long lenses

I've picked what I believe to be the relevent bits from Paul's list of features. More battery power may mean the focussing motors can operate that little bit faster; twin processors and redeveloped AF system may mean the focussing algorithms can operate faster, more accurately, and more reliably; and the bigger size will handle better. Have Olympus addressed the major issues (for those who want this sort of camera) or will people who hate M43 find something else to complain about?

There are no really groundbreaking new whizzy features over the E-M1 but this was not what this camera was all about.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I have started a new thread in this same m43 sub-forum (as Ian hasn't set one up for the E-M1X yet) so that anyone who goes and gets their grubby mitts on one at a demo session can give feedback on what it is really like. Thread here:

http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthre...192#post469192

Of course, we can keep the speculation and conjecture going on this one.

John

I guess it's clear that this is mainly aimed at sports & wildlife photographers. The addition of the hand-held hi-res mode is perhaps a bit gratuitous, but maybe a useful proving ground for later bodies targeted more at landscape or portait users.

The one massive fail (if the leaked specs are right) is the EVF. Using the same panel as debuted in the E-M1 back in 2013 is not at all something you'd expect to find in a 2019 camera at 2800. It's also a long way behind many other cameras at lower price points (G9, A7iii, Z6).

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I'd like the listed specs to be a hoax, but I don't think they are. I think some of it is a poor translation. But it is very odd that a camera promoted for sports has special focus modes listed for motors, planes and trains!

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

What if all of the rumoured specs are incorrect and in fact its actual spec is much better?

Heres to wishful thinking.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

If I may interrupt for a minute? I think we should concentrate on making better photographs instead of chasing ever better camera technology.

What happens between the lens cap and the viewfinder (or lcd screen) is not going to change greatly by the next iteration of camera. Of greater importance is what is beyond the lens and behind the viewfinder (or lcd if you choose).

Oh that we could all be satisfied with the gear that we have. I've been at this game for 60'ish years and haven't got there yet.

And 'only' another 12 months for the new 150-400mm zoom to go with it?

I wont stay up waiting for it.
