Focus Assist magnify hold

I've searched this forum and Googled but cannot find an answer to my question, so maybe someone here may be able to help. I'm using the E-M1 mk1.

When using Focus Assist magnify, as soon as you stop turning the focus ring the view immediately returns to the original full display. My question is: Is there any way of setting a delay after adjusting the focus ring before the display returns to normal? I second or two to evaluate the focus accuracy (and re-focus slightly if necessary) in the magnified view would be extremely useful.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Focus Assist magnify hold

Digital Zoom (Digital Tele-converter)
Digital Tele-converter is used to zoom in beyond the current zoom ratio. The camera
saves the center crop. Zoom is increased by about 2.
1 Select [On] for [Digital Tele-converter] in W Shooting Menu 1.
2 The view in the monitor will be enlarged by a factor of two.
• The subject will be recorded as it appears in the monitor.
y Cautions
• Digital zoom is not available with multiple exposures, in J mode, or when T, s, f,
w, or m is selected in SCN mode.
• This function is not available when [Movie Effect] is [On] in n mode.
• When a RAW image is displayed, the area visible in the monitor is indicated by a frame.
• AF target drops.

Re: Focus Assist magnify hold

I assign the 'Magnify' function to the Fn-2 button. You can select the amount of magnification on a control wheel and move the area that is magnified by using the 4-way selector. See manual p-23 for information.

Re: Focus Assist magnify hold

Thanks for the comments guys I need to have a play with these settings.

I noticed the need for some delay whilst shooting the Moon during the last Super/Blue/Blood moon last month and found getting a sharp focus whilst in magnify was very tricky. I was using the 50-200mm SWD lens and EC-20 TC on my E-M1 (mk1) and the magnify instantly went as soon as I released the focus ring.

Tonight I had another try of the moon but with the 300mm f/4.0 and the MC-14 and there was a definite lag (maybe 0.5 sec or so) before the magnified display went. I found it extremely easy and quick getting sharp images with Peaking turned on.

Cheers guys

Steve

Re: Focus Assist magnify hold

If you have the Fn2 button programmed to MultiFunction (which is default), then if you hold it down while rotating a dial (rear) it will change to the desired Function & one of those 4 functions is Magnified View. From a single press it will activate the function & show the focus area in "X x" (x = 3 to 14) magnification. Another press of the Fn2 will then 'magnify' to that value which can be changed by the dial. Fn2 will toggle the view. NB, when showing the focus box the other values can be changed with the dials, but when magnified they only then change the magnified ratio. I hope that helps. BTW, this allows this function to be used with any manual lens as well.
