Wirelss triggering - a quandary

I'm in a bit of a quandary here. I've got an FL-50 unit and an uber long extension cord which gives me TTL, but I need much more distance sometimes, and I find the cord unwieldy to use. So I'm looking at wireless triggers. Optical's no good because I occasionally need to get the flash behind things.

My options seem to be some kind of 3rd party wireless trigger setup, but I suppose that would lose me TTL. The best option, though, would be to trade the FL-50 for an FL-50R. The trouble is the best price I can see for an FL-50R is about 290 and it looks like I'd get about 150 at most for the FL50 and I'm not sure I can justify 140 for the feature.

So the questions are:
1. Any recommended 3rd party wireless trigger systems?
2. Is the upgrade worth the extra money over 3rd party?

Ideas anyone?
